Job summary

Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) seeks an experienced Vice President, Policy and Public Affairs to lead policy, government relations, communications and public affairs. Hybrid role based in Ottawa with in-office presence required. Compensation is $125,000–$135,000 CAD plus benefits and rewards.

Reports to the CEO and collaborates with senior teams to advance CIP’s strategic priorities. The role oversees policy and government relations, communications, media engagement, and stakeholder

Qualifications

  • Degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Communications, Public Relations, or related field.
  • 10+ years in senior leadership roles in policy, communications or advocacy.
  • Professional planning designation is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership across policy, communications, and government relations.
  • Advise CEO and senior leaders on policy positioning and risk.
  • Oversee budgeting, planning, and risk management.
  • Lead integrated planning across policy, advocacy, and communications.
  • Ensure consistent messaging across organizational outputs.
  • Represent CIP with government, media, and partners as requested.
  • Mentor and develop policy and communications teams.
