Job summary

Equitable is seeking a Senior Underwriting Consultant, Innovation, to lead risk management for underwriting tools and forms. You’ll drive improvements in questions, rules engines and analytics, while supporting business growth and client outcomes.

This role is remote with potential on-site needs and travel within the Waterloo region as required. You’ll work with underwriting, new business, delivery, pricing and analytics teams to deliver high-integrity risk solutions and an outstanding client

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of professional Life and Critical Illness underwriting experience.
  • Experience supporting underwriting tools, application questions and projects.
  • Willingness to pursue related designations and continuous learning.

Responsibilities

  • Audit and monitor underwriting tools to ensure risk-appropriate decisions.
  • Provide SME input to improve questions, rules, and analytics.
  • Prioritize and execute enhancements with cross-functional teams.
  • Assist on cross-functional projects with underwriting risk focus.
  • Ensure positive change management for clients and internal teams.
  • Build relationships with technology, product, pricing and analytics teams.
  • Research, summarize findings and present recommendations to senior management.
  • Explore internal and external innovation partnerships.
  • Comply with legislative, consumer regulation and reinsurance requirements.
  • Contribute to team progress, creativity and professional development.

Equitable is growing and we are looking for a Senior Underwriting Consultant, Innovation, to join our fantastic team. In this role, you will be part of our Underwriting Innovation Team where you will be responsible for the risk management of our various underwriting tools and application forms. You have a strong commitment to improving the insurance-buying experience with the right risk solutions. Work Arrangements:

You will work from your home office 100% of the time. You may be required to be in-person at our office in Waterloo, ON or another assigned location within the Waterloo Region, on an as needed basis. Sales related roles may be required to travel based on the assignment.

What you’ll do:
  • Audit and monitor the performance of underwriting tools (rules engine, predictive analytics) to ensure decisions are risk appropriate and within an acceptable risk threshold.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to improve underwriting application questions, rules engines, and predictive analytics using data, competitive analysis and behavioural science principles.
  • Drive the prioritization and execution of key enhancements to the systems supporting our underwriting team, working collaboratively with our new business and delivery teams.
  • Assist with various cross-functional projects, bringing underwriting risk lens
  • Ensure positive change management for our clients and internal teams
  • Build strong relationships with our technology, new business, product, pricing and analytics teams.
  • Research and analysis as required, producing written summary or presentation of findings and recommendations to senior management.
  • Explore and make recommendations for new internal and external innovation partnerships.
  • Comply with legislative requirements, consumer regulation and reinsurance treaties as they apply to privacy, disclosure and risk classification

  • 7+ years of demonstrated professional experience as a Life and Critical Illness Underwriter, ideally with experience supporting underwriting tools, application questions and underwriting projects
  • FLMI / FALU / CPU designation(s) or currently working towards them
  • Commitment to continuous learning and participation in education enhancement to remain current with medical knowledge and industry underwriting trends
  • Bilingual in English, French, Cantonese, Mandarin is an asset
