Job Description:

Location: hybrid, work from home

Sun Life’s High Net Worth Team creates a remarkable new business experience through an unparalleled proactive and responsive process that supports both the advisor and their client throughout the entire acquisition process, complemented by immediate inforce support through dedicated points of contact. What will you do?

1. Use effective teaching style for training and mentoring senior Underwriting resource on financial and reinsurance aspects of High Net Worth business
2. Complete risk assessment on larger and more complex cases with higher premium and face amounts (between $5,000,000 and $10,000,000 with ability to decline unacceptable risks)
3. Complete classification for life and critical illness, making effective use of full signing authority
4. Apply holistic underwriting expertise in all areas of underwriting including medical, financial and lifestyle factors to make sound and competitive underwriting decisions
5. Perform referrals with the aim of mentoring senior underwriters
6. Provide full explanations for our rationale on all decisions and inquiries
7. Be called upon to meet with Advisors and Firms, and deliver presentations that support SLF Underwriting philosophies
8. Take leadership role in identifying areas of challenge and bringing forward well thought out recommendations for solutions through our Brighter Way program
9. Be client and results focus, using a pro-active service orientation
10. Have the commitment to support our Distribution partners

What do you need to succeed?

1. Bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada and worldwide; the position reports to a unilingual English-speaking manager outside Quebec.
2. Must have excellent technical underwriting skills with a minimum of 7 to 10 years underwriting experience
3. Must make appropriate risk assessment decisions on applications in accordance with SLF underwriting guidelines and within signing authority
4. AALU designation and working towards the FALU designation
5. Demonstrate visible and positive leadership that actively supports change
6. Act as a change agent and help others adapt
7. Exceptional reinsurance negotiating skills
8. Empathy and practice principles of finesse to promote positive interactions
9. Demonstrated awareness of trends and changes in medicine, and initiative to bring forward recommendations to operational teams and development and governance as needed
10. Excel at building partnerships with advisors and wholesalers

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
