About the Role: Everest Insurance Company of Canada is looking for an Underwriting Specialist to join our Commercial Casualty team located in Toronto, Ontario. In this role you will report to the Manager, Commercial Casualty, and will be responsible for marketing, producing and being a resource for Everest Canada. This is a hybrid position with the requirement to be working out of the Toronto office.
Role & Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
The successful candidate will be part of a specialized team focusing on larger National Casualty Accounts and will have critical responsibilities of producing new business, managing a renewal book of business while creating brand awareness for Everest.Majority of accounts are written on a fronted basis utilizing reimbursement agreements or reinsurance contracts. Most business is written with the larger Global, National, and Regional brokers. The role includes specific production goals and objectives both, as part of the team and on an individual basis.This candidate will also be responsible for being an ambassador to our culture within Everest Canada and Everest as a whole, with a focus on profitable growth and visibility throughout Canada.
Qualifications :
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in business or a departmentally related field.
10-15 years of relevant work experience in Underwriting, specifically in the Casualty Line of Business.
Broad retail broker network.
Outstanding communication, interpersonal relationship building, employee coaching and development skills.
Experience in shared and layered insurance market.
Knowledgeable about trends in litigation, casualty insurance and liability policy wordings.
Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other relevant tools.
Willing to travel.
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies :
Demonstrated ability to generate profitable new business and proven record of delivering meaningful underwriting profit.
Excellent written and oral communication skills to work with both internal teams and external brokers as you will work in a team environment, assisting underwriters and / or deal administrators as part of their overall responsibility.
Strong technical background, problem solving analytical skills, and ability to connect data analytics with strategic deliverables to drive underwriting strategy.
Excellent organizational, time-management and multi-tasking skills.
Highly collaborative and able to work effectively with peers.
