Senior Underwriter, Life & Living Benefits

Position Overview

The Senior Underwriter assesses risks for individual insurance products, including life, critical illness, and medical disability lines. The role involves working closely with the field to provide training, support, and issue resolution, as well as guiding less experienced underwriters and participating in product, policy, and process improvements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and analyze medical, financial, and personal information to evaluate risks.
  • Assess complex applications and policy changes, considering multiple risks and their interactions.
  • Determine reinsurance impact and escalate cases as necessary.
  • Make high-level decisions in accordance with company guidelines and standards.
  • Compile electronic summaries of underwriting requirements using the Phoenix system.
  • Collaborate with Distribution Management on complex cases and training issues.
  • Support advisors in processing their business accurately and promptly.
  • Identify needs for procedural deviations or alternative information sources for underwriting decisions.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Post-secondary education with 2-3 years of relevant experience.
  • Progress towards or completion of FALU or FLMI designations.
  • Strong decision-making, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • High integrity in handling confidential information.
  • Efficiency in resource management, with a focus on quality and continuous improvement.
Additional Information

This position primarily requires proficiency in English, with French as an asset, and involves working mainly with non-Francophone groups outside Québec.
