What Is the Opportunity?

The Bond & Specialty Insurance (B&SI) group at Travelers is seeking to add an Account Executive (Senior Underwriter) to our Construction Surety team. This is an opportunity to join a successful, dedicated, and collaborative team of underwriters in a highly visible and challenging role. As an AE, you are decisive, detail-oriented, and have the ability to build relationships internally and externally to drive results. Your ability to assess risk and promote our products will contribute to the profitability and success of Travelers.

What Will You Do?

  • Responsible for the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business through thorough knowledge and understanding of Travelers risk appetite to make appropriate decisions within own underwriting authority.
  • Support senior leadership group with credit analysis and underwriting recommendations.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal partners within the business unit and across the enterprise to create sales plans and identify cross-selling opportunities.
  • Develop, foster and maintain relationships with external partners by regularly meeting with brokers to market and promote Travelers products.
  • Identify new business opportunities using consultative marketing and sales skills.
  • Collaborate with management to execute on regional sales plans.
  • Monitor assigned portfolio to identify deteriorating credit conditions and compliance with the terms and conditions of the facility.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Representing Travelers at various industry-related functions.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • Bachelor’s degree in a finance or accounting related discipline preferred.
  • Three to five years of surety underwriting or finance / accounting experience preferred.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking skills while proactively identifying underwriting, marketing or financial challenges and analyze available information to make timely recommendations in alignment with our risk appetite.
  • Strong financial acumen, including the ability to analyze financial statements and client’s operational history.
  • Communication skills with the ability to successfully collaborate with our broker partners.
  • Customer service oriented to provide best in class service.
  • Manage range of complex and time sensitive tasks efficiently and effectively.

What is a Must Have?

  • Minimum of three years of surety, finance or accounting related experience or relevant insurance underwriting experience required.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Periodic travel will be required.
