Job summary

CHES Special Risk Inc. in Toronto is seeking an experienced underwriter to join our Property & Casualty and Medical Malpractice team. You will help underwrite new business, manage renewals, and develop relationships with Retail Brokers.

Ideal candidates have 4–5 years of underwriting experience, a RIBO/CIP/FCIP designation (in progress is acceptable), and strong analytical and decision-making skills. This is a hybrid position based at 19-130 King St W, Toronto.

• Minimum 4–5 years of commercial property and casualty underwriting experience.
• Experience with Medical Malpractice is preferred.
• Demonstrable sales and marketing experience.
• Underwrite and negotiate renewals and build broker relationships.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite new business as presented by a broker's office.
• Achieve assigned monthly sales goals and maintain renewal books.
• Underwrite and negotiate renewals with funders and brokers.
• Produce from and manage an existing broker following.
• Ensure customer service standards are consistently met.

Job Duration: Full-Time, Permanent, Current Vacancy

Wage Transparency: The base salary range for this position is $70,000 to $100,000. The base salary offered will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, experience, credentials, education, certifications, skill level required for the position, the scope of the position, and geographic location. Actual base salary offered will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.

About the Role
We are looking to recruit a Team player to join our growing Team and Professional lines/Medical Malpractice Book, your key responsibilities will be to assist in the underwriting and develop business with our Binder markets and new and existing Retail Brokers.

What You\'ll Do

• Professional Lines - E&O, D&O, Medical Malpractice
• Underwrite new business as presented by a broker\'s office
• Achieve assigned monthly sales goals
• Maintain the existing renewal book
• Underwrite and negotiate renewals
• Produce from and have an existing Broker following
• Ensure Customer Service Standards are consistently met
• Portfolio Management
• Monitor each key Broker\'s results semi-annually
• Monitor Underlying Portfolio results and adjust accordingly
• Report directly to Senior management
• Ensure Profitable risk selection

What You Bring

• Experience at an MGA would be preferred
• RIBO/CIP/FCIP designation or in progress, would be considered an asset
• Experience with Medical Malpractice
• Post-graduate degree or certification
• Developed knowledge and applied experience in the application of industry legislation and regulations; knowledge of industry objectives, trends and issues
• Minimum 4-5 years of commercial property and casualty underwriting experience
• Demonstrable sales and marketing experience
• Experience/exposure to financial management methods, the nature of insurance risk and reinsurance costs, underwriting, claims underwriting and reinsurance
• Demonstrable proficiency in underwriting basic to moderately complex books of commercial property and casualty products, including underwriting coverage, pricing, production and delivery, risk management and managing local brokerage plans
• Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Possess excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Capable of making sound business decisions where there are areas of ambiguity
• Possess excellent organization and time management skills with the ability to effectively multi-task
• Displays confidence and composure under pressure
• Able and motivated to work in cross-functional teams as well as independently
• Ability to take initiative and work effectively with minimal direction
• Ability to motivate self and others
