Job Duration: Full-Time, Permanent

Wage Transparency: The base salary range for this position is $55,000 to $75,000. The base salary offered will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, experience, credentials, education, certifications, skill level required for the position, the scope of the position, and geographic location. Actual base salary offered will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.

About The Role

At NFP, our brokers provide clients with expert insurance coverage. We are looking for a Personal Lines Property Underwriter to support our brokers and grow our book within the Lloyd’s market. The successful candidate will manage a portfolio of personal property risks within our standard and non-standard contracts, including homes, rentals, seasonals, condos and tenants packages. The UW will analyze risks and provide quotes for our home products while collaborating with internal brokers to provide fair and competitive rates that fit the client’s needs. They will also support other Underwriting functions within the Quality and Underwriting team as the need arises.

What You’ll Do
  • Underwrite and provide quotes for new and renewal personal property risks, within delegated authority limits
  • Help identify areas of concern regarding loss ratios, risk trends, or other discrepancies, applying remediation strategies as appropriate
  • Manage the underwriting workflow from quote to policy issuance
  • Analyze risks to identify fair and sensible solutions that fit within the program guidelines
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends, developments, and regulatory changes
  • Apply underwriting guidelines, risk appetite, and sound judgement when reviewing submissions and making underwriting decisions
  • Work closely with brokers and internal partners to gather required information, clarify risk details, and support timely underwriting outcomes
  • Document underwriting decisions clearly and consistently to support transparency, file quality, and future reference
  • Support the broader Underwriting team as needs arise, including assisting with file reviews, workflow priorities, coverage questions, risk assessments, process improvements, and cross-team collaboration with brokers, claims, quality, and other internal partners
What You Bring
  • Typically, five (5)+ years of professional experience within the insurance industry preferably with advanced knowledge of property underwriting
  • Solid understanding of Property underwriting is preferred
  • Knowledge of Lloyd’s underwriting practices is an asset
  • Proven success in providing a high level of customer service in a fast-paced and challenging environment
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to analyze and convey summaries of complex issues; recognize alternative approaches and develop action plans, both orally and in written form
  • Remarkable collaboration, negotiation and influencing skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain long-term relationships with brokers, clients and internal partners
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office - Outlook, Word, Excel
  • Excellent attention to detail and sensible judgement
  • Exceptional problem-solving, decision making and analytical skills
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
  • Professional designation such as CIP is an asset
