Job summary

RBC in Toronto seeks a software engineer to join a high-performing team transforming Merchant Payment Systems. You will collaborate with stakeholders, architects, and senior developers to design and deploy scalable, secure solutions using Java/Spring Boot, React, RESTful APIs, cloud-native architectures, and IBM Mainframe expertise.

The role emphasizes CI/CD, Agile delivery, and learning new tech such as LLMs.

Qualifications

• 3–4 years of hands-on experience in Java / Spring Boot, React, Node.js or Python
• Experience with IBM Mainframe - Batch Processing, JCL, COBOL, CICS, ZEKE, IMS, DB2
• Familiarity with RESTful APIs and relational databases
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and automated testing concepts
• Basic knowledge of cloud platforms (OpenShift, AWS, or Azure)
• Comfort working in Linux-based and IBM Host environments
• Exposure to FastAPI or similar frameworks
• Basic understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs) and Generative AI concepts
• Eagerness to learn new technologies as legacy systems are modernized and AI is integrated

Responsibilities

• Participate in technical analysis and solution design under senior guidance
• Contribute to Jira story creation, estimation, and sprint delivery
• Translate business requirements into user stories and technical designs with mentorship
• Develop and maintain enterprise-grade applications, including Spring Boot microservices and React front-ends
• Work with RESTful APIs, cloud-native and containerized solutions
• Engage in CI/CD pipelines and deployment activities
• Code, perform peer reviews, and conduct unit/integration testing
• Learn and adopt security standards, performance benchmarks, and best practices

You will join a high-performing team focused on transforming Merchant Payment Systems. This role supports the modernization of enterprise payment platforms through API-driven services, cloud-native architectures, and data-driven insights, as well as support and development of IBM Mainframe applications.

What Will You Do?

• Participate in technical analysis and solution design under senior guidance
• Contribute to Jira story creation, estimation, and sprint delivery
• Translate business requirements into user stories and technical designs with mentorship
• Develop and maintain enterprise-grade applications, including:
• Spring Boot microservices

• Deliver solutions using Agile methodologies through CI/CD pipelines
• Participate in software development activities:
• Coding and peer code reviews
• Unit and integration testing
• Deployment support
• Learn and adopt best practices, security standards, and performance benchmarks

What Do You Need To Succeed?

Must Have

• 3-4 years of hands-on experience (or strong internship/co-op experience) in:
• Java / Spring Boot
• React or similar front-end frameworks
• Node.js or Python
• SQL
• IBM Mainframe - Batch Processing, JCL, COBOL, CICS, ZEKE, IMS, DB2
• Basic understanding of RESTful APIs
• Familiarity with relational databases
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and automated testing concepts
• Basic knowledge of cloud platforms (OpenShift, AWS, or Azure)
• Comfort working in Linux-based and IBM Host environments
• Exposure to FastAPI or similar frameworks
• Basic understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs) and Generative AI concepts
• Eagerness to learn new technologies we are modernizing legacy systems and integrating AI. You will grow rapidly in this role

Nice-to-Have

• Exposure to containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Interest in AI/ML tools and their application in development
