Job summary

WSP Global Inc. is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join the Ground Engineering team in Thunder Bay, Ontario. You will lead geotechnical projects, mentor staff, and collaborate with clients and contractors across Northwestern Ontario and beyond.

The role calls for a strong geotechnical background, Ontario P.Eng., and a track record in consulting and business development. You’ll work in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment focused on impactful projects and client success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering.
• P.Eng. designation in Ontario.
• 10+ years in geotechnical engineering with consulting and/or project management.
• Proven business development and client management experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage geotechnical engineering projects from inception to completion.
• Assist in growing the Geotechnical Engineering presence in Thunder Bay and Northwestern Ontario.
• Coordinate site investigations, soil/rock sampling, and geotechnical analyses.
• Prepare and review geotechnical reports, designs, and recommendations.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Collaborate with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure project success.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.
• Support business development: proposals, client meetings, and site visits.
• Stay current with geotechnical advancements and integrate new tech.

WSP is currently seeking a highly motivated Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Ground Engineering team, located at our Thunder Bay Ontariooffice. You will work closely with our professionals, collaborate with industry experts, and work on various projects in Northern / Northwestern Ontario (as well as throughout the rest of Ontario and potentially across the country.

AtWSP,we're continuing to grow and develop our expertise inGeotechnical Engineering, operating as a trusted advisor and technical expert on engineering design challenges for our clients across multiple industries.

Your Impact

• Assist in the growth of WSP’s Geotechnical Engineering presence in Thunder Bay and area and overall, in Northwestern Ontario by growing our private, public sector and indigenous community geotechnical engineering client base and project portfolio.
• Lead and manage geotechnical engineering projects from inception to completion.
• Facilitate site investigations, soil and rock sampling, and geotechnical analysis.
• Prepare and review geotechnical reports, designs, and recommendations.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers and technical staff.
• Collaborate with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure project success.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
• Participate in business development activities, including proposal preparation, client meetings/presentations, team development, as well as site visits across Northern Ontario.
• Stay current with advancements in geotechnical engineering and incorporate new technologies and methodologies into projects.

The Skills That Set You Apart

• Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field (master’s degree preferred).
• Registered as Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario.
• Minimum of 10 years of relevant (post-degree) working experience in geotechnical engineering, with a focus on consulting and/or project management.
• A track record in business development, including a strong existing client base is preferred.
• Demonstrated success in customer services, client management and proposal/report writing.
• Strong technical knowledge in soil mechanics, foundation engineering, slope stability, and ground improvement techniques.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software and tools.
• Strong technical writing, interpersonal communication, and emotional intelligence.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple priorities.
• An Ontario Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle.
• Sense of initiative, attention to detail & team spirit.
• Commitment to safe work practices for yourself and your colleagues.

Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YK: $147,500 – $195,400

MB & ON: $134,600 – $184,600

NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC: $133,200 – $176,900
