Key Responsibilities
- Create 3D models in SolidWorks for conceptual design, prototyping, production optimization, shop drawings, and revision maintenance.
- Develop detailed model concepts from rough design ideas to support new product development.
- Carry out product design and testing activities, including evaluating new concepts, validating prototypes, documenting results, and recommending design improvements.
- Assist with engineering models, experimental prototypes, and test setups based on sketches, rough outlines, verbal instructions, and required engineering calculations.
- Design jigs and fixtures that improve and support assembly processes.
- 3D print prototype parts, jigs, and fixtures using FDM and/or resin printers.
- Create, revise, and organize production drawings and technical documentation to support manufacturing.
- Administer and maintain bills of materials.
- Create and update assembly instructions.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent post-secondary education in Mechanical Engineering Technology.
- 3 5 years of design experience in a mechanical or manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar design software.
- Experience performing product design and testing, including prototype evaluation, test documentation, and design validation.
- Strong mechanical problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Commitment to high engineering and quality standards.
Preferred Assets
- Experience with 3D printing and slicing software such as Ultimaker Cura, 3D Sprint, or similar tools.
- Experience with Mastercam.
- Experience using finite element analysis (FEA) or similar engineering design software.
- Basic coding knowledge, such as VB or C++, and familiarity with electronics.
- Technical writing experience.
