Mechanical Technologist

Our client is an established custom equipment and component manufacturer with over 25 years of history. They are looking for a Mechanical Technologist to support the design and development of custom-built equipment and precision-engineered components at their Mississauga location.

The Mechanical Technologist designs and details custom mechanical equipment by translating conceptual ideas into practical, manufacturable solutions. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to work independently from concept through build with minimal supervision.

Role and Responsibilities

SolidWorks Design & Drafting

• Create 3D models, assemblies, and production drawings
• Apply GD&T and internal drafting standards
• Maintain drawing accuracy, revision control, and organized documentation
• Design custom mechanical equipment, tooling, jigs, fixtures, and components
• Develop complete mechanical solutions from high-level concepts or functional requirements
• Support prototype builds and incorporate design-for-manufacturing and assembly feedback
• Participate in design reviews and technical decision-making
• Identify opportunities to improve cost, performance, durability, and manufacturability

Production & Shop Support

• Support machining, fabrication, welding, and assembly activities
• Provide drawing clarification and technical guidance during builds
• Troubleshoot mechanical, fit, alignment, motion, and functional issues
• Contribute to continuous improvement of manufacturing processes and workflows

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or related field
• 4+ years of hands‑on mechanical design experience
• Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks (parts, assemblies, drawings)
• Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Strong understanding of mechanical principles, GD&T, and tolerancing
• Practical knowledge of machining, fabrication, welding, and assembly processes
• Proven mechanical problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills
• Comfortable working in a manufacturing / shop-floor environment
• Strong attention to detail and documentation discipline
• Clear communicator with the ability to collaborate across teams
