Your Role as Intermediate Mechanical Engineer

Reporting to the Supervisor of Mechanical Engineering Services, you will work within a collaborative engineering team to deliver mechanical designs for detailed engineering projects. You will contribute to both single-discipline mechanical assignments and complex multidisciplinary projects. Working alongside engineers, designers, clients, and other project stakeholders, you will support projects from initial assessment and design through construction and commissioning. This role is an excellent opportunity for a mechanical engineer who is ready to take greater ownership of technical work, coordinate project activities, and continue developing their project management and client-facing skills.

Your Key Accountabilities
  • Technical and Documentation
    • Design and analyze mechanical systems, including underground and surface mining infrastructure, pumping and piping systems, industrial mechanical systems, and mechanical equipment.
    • Prepare engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, technical reports, and other project documentation.
    • Apply relevant engineering codes, standards, regulations, and client requirements to mechanical designs.
    • Complete equipment selection and prepare technical specifications and data sheets.
    • Participate in site assessments, field investigations, data collection, inspections, and commissioning activities.
    • Assess existing mechanical systems, identify potential issues, and recommend practical remedial actions.
    • Review drawings and technical documentation for accuracy, constructability, and alignment with project requirements.
    • Follow established quality assurance and quality control processes.
  • Project Coordination and Management
    • Work on both single-discipline and multidisciplinary projects in collaboration with engineering and design teams.
    • Coordinate mechanical design requirements with other disciplines to support integrated project solutions.
    • Participate in project meetings and work with internal and external stakeholders to resolve technical challenges.
    • Manage assigned tasks and deliverables in accordance with project scope, schedule, and budget.
    • Support the planning and delivery of smaller mechanical projects, with opportunities to take on increasing project responsibility.
    • Communicate project progress, risks, design changes, and technical requirements to project leads and team members.
    • Provide construction support by responding to technical questions, reviewing contractor submissions, and assisting with field-related issues.
  • Client and Business Support
    • Maintain clear and professional communication with clients, contractors, vendors, and project team members throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Support the preparation of proposals, including the development of scopes of work, schedules, and cost estimates.
    • Participate in client meetings and help build strong, trusted working relationships.
    • Contribute to successful project delivery by providing responsive service and practical, high-quality engineering solutions.
  • Professional Development and Team Contribution
    • Collaborate with senior engineers and subject matter experts to strengthen your technical and project delivery skills.
    • Provide guidance and technical support to junior engineers and designers, as appropriate.
    • Stay informed about evolving industry practices, technologies, codes, and standards.
    • Contribute to a team culture focused on safety, quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
    • Support the continued development of BESTECH’s mechanical engineering practice.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or mechatronics engineering.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or eligible for registration with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO). Candidates registered in another Canadian jurisdiction must be eligible to transfer their registration to Ontario.
  • Approximately 5 to 10 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience, preferably in mining, industrial, or heavy-industry environments.
  • Sound knowledge of applicable mechanical engineering codes, standards, and design practices.
  • Experience preparing mechanical engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and reports.
  • Experience coordinating engineering work on single-discipline or multidisciplinary projects.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and mechanical design applications.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Microsoft Project is considered an asset.
  • Developing project coordination and project management skills, including the ability to manage assigned scope, schedule, and budget requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical and report-writing abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively while managing priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel and attend meetings, inspections, and field visits at client sites.
