Your area of focus.

This role requires a tax professional with a blend of technical expertise in income tax accounting, compliance, and reporting, along with experience in indirect taxes. Reporting to the Director of Tax, the individual will lead the review and preparation of tax provisions, manage tax reporting and compliance functions, and oversee automation of tax-related processes. The position also involves supporting various tax projects, including acquisitions, cross-border compliance, and risk management, while providing development and training to the Canadian tax team. A strong background in Canadian and US tax, IFRS, and multinational tax issues is required, along with experience managing teams and complex tax audits.

What drives your day-to-day?

  • Develop processes and efficiencies including automation for tax provision, tax reporting and compliance processes.
  • Lead the review and preparation of quarterly and annual tax provisions including note disclosures in accordance with IFRS.
  • Oversight of the corporate direct and indirect tax reporting and compliance function.
  • Maintain execution and documentation of internal control procedures/policies
  • Research and review of impending and enacted legislative matters for tax/executive management
  • Review new significant contracts to evaluate appropriate IFRS tax accounting treatment and disclosure requirements.
  • Coordinate income and indirect tax audits.
  • Assist with the management and plan budget for tax function to optimize cost-savings.
  • Assist with financial budgets, forecasts, and cash tax projections

What are the must-haves…

  • 7-15 years combined experience with Big 4 public accounting firm and industry
  • Prior working experience with a multinational organization.
  • Strong technical background in Canadian income tax
  • Strong knowledge and experience in IFRS, and reviewing tax provisions for large multinational companies
  • Experience in US tax and indirect tax technical matters.
  • Ability to use initiative, judgement, and work with minimum supervision
  • Strong analytical awareness and problem-solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English (second language preferred)
  • Management experience over a small team
  • Ability to build and maintain good working relationships with all levels of personnel
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Sharepoint)
  • Proficient in tax returns and provision software (Taxprep, Alteryx, OneStream)
