Job description

Meet Benevity

Benevity is the way the world does good, providing companies (and their employees) with technology to take social action on the issues they care about. Through giving, volunteering, grantmaking, employee resource groups and micro-actions, we help most of the Fortune 100 brands build better cultures and use their power for good. We're also one of the first B Corporations in Canada, meaning we're as committed to purpose as we are to profits. We have people working all over the world, including Canada, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States and more!

Benevity is seeking a dynamic Senior Tax Analyst to join our high-growth Global Tax team for a defined-term maternity leave cover. This isn't just a backfill; it’s a high-impact opportunity to immerse yourself in the fast-paced SaaS industry.

Reporting to the Director, Global Tax, you will have a front-row seat to the complexities of a global social enterprise, gaining invaluable experience that only a market-leading AI-first platform organization can provide.

If you are detail and results-oriented, have strong reporting skills, and are motivated to make a positive impact with a passionate team, this role is ideal for you!
What you’ll do:

  • Lead the preparation and execution of Canadian corporate tax filings, serving as the primary authority on compliance across Canada, the US, and Europe.
  • Manage the international compliance strategy by coordinating US and European corporate tax filings with precision and autonomy.
  • Take ownership of the transfer pricing lifecycle, from methodology execution to monthly reporting and calculations.
  • Serve as a technical advisor for charitable foundation groups, supporting tax compliance and providing technical guidance.
  • Manage the end-to-end indirect tax compliance cycle to ensure global accuracy:
    • Execute and finalize US sales tax filings utilizing Avalara;
    • Coordinate with the Procure-to-Pay team to assist with, review, and finalize Canadian sales tax filings;
    • Oversee the timely preparation and finalization of international VAT filings in partnership with external service providers.

Tax Reporting:

  • Architect the consolidated tax provision process in accordance with ASC 740 US GAAP, ensuring strategic alignment with global financial goals.
  • Lead high-level advisory with Treasury, Accounting, and Financial Reporting teams to safeguard the integrity of tax disclosures and deferred tax strategies.
  • Own corporate reporting outputs, providing actionable insights that inform Tax Leadership.

Tax Research:

  • Conduct research into complex tax issues to support compliance, reporting, and planning solutions within the SaaS ecosystem.
  • Design and deliver expert-led training programs that elevate the tax literacy and operational efficiency of key business units.
  • Proactively interpret and capitalize on new legislation in Canada and international jurisdictions to optimize Benevity’s tax position.
  • Act as the definitive subject matter expert for internal finance and operations teams, solving critical tax challenges autonomously.

Strategic Cross-functional Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with Finance, Legal, and Product teams to embed tax expertise into core business initiatives.
  • Drive special projects and high-impact tax initiatives that contribute to the rapid growth and scale of our global operations.

What you’ll bring:

  • An "AI-first" mindset with a strong drive to leverage emerging AI technologies and automation to streamline tax compliance, and reporting workflows.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a high degree of autonomy, thriving in the ambiguity of a high-growth SaaS environment.
  • Visionary problem solver who takes full end-to-end ownership of complex tax challenges.
  • Strategic influencer with the ability to build credibility and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Exceptional ability to communicate complex tax concepts to diverse audiences, from technical teams to executives.
  • Agile project manager capable of directing multiple high-priority workstreams simultaneously.
  • Expert proficiency in modern tax and ERP systems, including Netsuite, CCH iFirm, and Avalara.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability.
  • CPA or equivalent professional designation.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive corporate tax preparation and provisioning experience in a Canadian or multinational setting.
  • Experience in public accounting or with a multinational enterprise.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of IFRS or US GAAP.
  • Familiarity with sales taxes (an asset).
