Job summary

Imperial Oil is seeking a Sr. Tailings Engineer in the Calgary/Edmonton area to shape sustainable mining and water management.

You will develop and maintain tailings deposition plans aligned with production schedules and regulatory frameworks, collaborating with Mine Planning, Geotechnical, Operations, and Closure teams. This role offers relocation support, leadership of junior staff, and opportunities to influence asset decisions in a world-class oil sands operation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mining, Civil or Geological Engineering.
• P.Eng. designation with APEGA or eligibility.
• 8+ years of tailings engineering, planning, or operations.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication and coordination skills.

Responsibilities

• Be a safety leader – support and adhere by all standards and producers and operate with safety as a value.
• Develop tailings plans, ensuring alignment with mine production, dyke construction, and regulatory requirements.
• Integrate tailings deposition strategies with mine sequencing, water management needs, and available storage capacity.
• Prepare presentations, schedules, and visualizations for management and stakeholders.
• Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to junior staff.
• Provide technical support to field operations and contribute to continuous improvement of tailings planning processes, tools, and standards.
