Job summary

SYSTRA Canada is seeking a Systems Safety Specialist to support the development, integration, and assurance of safe, reliable systems across the full lifecycle. You will identify hazards, assess risks, define safety requirements, and provide independent assurance that systems meet safety standards.

The role requires strong systems engineering capability, experience in safety assurance, risk management, and compliance within safety-critical environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, systems, safety, or a related discipline.
• 10 - 15 years experience in systems safety, system assurance, or functional safety roles.
• Knowledge of safety lifecycle processes and systems engineering principles.
• Experience developing safety cases, hazard logs, and assurance documentation.
• Familiarity with applicable industry standards, regulations, and assurance frameworks.
• Strong analytical, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and influence technical decisions.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead safety and assurance activities from concept through design and operation.
• Conduct hazard identification and risk assessments.
• Develop safety arguments and allocate safety requirements.
• Coordinate verification, validation, and reviews for safety.
• Prepare safety cases and compliance evidence.
• Support certification and regulatory submissions.
• Facilitate safety workshops with stakeholders.
• Contribute to lessons learned and process improvements.
