Job summary

Actalent seeks a Senior Systems Engineer to support the LVCTS program for Canadian military vehicle crews. The role is permanent, full-time, based in Ottawa with a hybrid work model. You will lead complex safety-critical system requirements, design, integration, and verification while coordinating with suppliers and customers.

The candidate will guide specifications, SOWs, ICDs, and test plans, ensure DoD-like governance, and mentor junior engineers. Security clearance eligibility is required.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in full-lifecycle systems engineering (requirements, architecture, interfaces, integration, verification, validation).
• Enterprise requirements management with DOORS or equivalent including traceability.
• Technical leadership with suppliers, subcontractors, and customers.
• Authoring governance of specifications, SOWs, ICDs, test requirements and plans.
• Experience in complex defence, simulation, or regulated systems.
• Eligible for Government of Canada security clearance.

Job Title: Senior Systems Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Systems Engineer to join our team on a permanent, full-time basis. This role involves supporting the anticipated Land Vehicle Crew Training System (LVCTS) program, which aims to create high-fidelity simulated training environments for Canadian military vehicle crews, commanders, and drivers. The program includes facilities, software, manufactured simulators, and supporting integration laboratories.

Responsibilities

• Own and manage system requirements across customers, internal teams, and multiple subcontractors.
• Lead or materially contribute to system design, architecture, interface definition, integration, verification, validation, testing, and acceptance.
• Produce specifications, Interface Control Documents, test requirements, test plans, and Statements of Work.
• Conduct trade studies and recommend technologies.
• Manage supplier engineering, technical compliance, risks, opportunities, and performance measures.
• Support formal engineering reviews, lifecycle management, effort estimation, status reporting, and Earned Value accountability.
• Provide technical leadership and mentor less experienced engineers.
• Spend an estimated 60% to 80% of the role interacting with suppliers, subcontractors, customers, and internal stakeholders.

Essential Skills

• 10+ years of experience in full-lifecycle systems engineering, including requirements, architecture/design, interfaces, integration, verification, and validation.
• Enterprise requirements management using DOORS or a credible equivalent, including decomposition and traceability.
• Supplier, subcontractor, and customer-facing technical leadership (Vendor Management).
• Authoring and governance of specifications, SOWs, ICDs, test requirements, and test plans.
• Complex defence, simulation, military vehicle, mission-system, or closely transferable regulated-system experience.
• Controlled Goods eligibility and ability to obtain and maintain required Government of Canada security clearance.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Direct land-vehicle crew-training simulation experience.
• Experience with tanks, LAVs, TAPVs, or comparable military ground platforms.
• Systems Integration Laboratory and physical simulator build/integration experience.
• MBSE, INCOSE-aligned methods, UML, DoDAF, or similar frameworks.
• ILS, digital implementation, lifecycle management, EV/EAC, TPMs, and risk/opportunity management.
• Aerospace simulation experience; DND/PSPC familiarity; capture experience; bilingual French/English.

Work Environment

The work environment involves a hybrid work expectation of three days onsite, typically Monday through Wednesday, with core hours generally from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Practical flexibility is provided for exceptional needs. Calgary is the priority location, with Ottawa as secondary. The environment is formal, collaborative, and process-driven, with significant documentation, governance, engineering reviews, and long-term sustainment accountability. Approximately 60 to 80% of the role involves vendor management.
