Job summary

EastPoint Engineering Limited in Halifax, Nova Scotia, is seeking a Junior Structural Engineer with 1–6 years of experience to join our dynamic team. You will lead and support structural design for commercial and industrial projects, coordinate with architects, BIM technicians and contractors, and participate in all project phases from feasibility through commissioning.

We value mentorship and offer internal training to pursue P.Eng.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or degree in civil/structural engineering required.
  • 10+ years of relevant structural engineering experience.
  • P.Eng. in Nova Scotia or eligible to obtain registration.
  • Experience with ETABS or similar structural analysis software.
  • Strong knowledge of CSA S6-19, CSA A23.3, CSA S16 and CSA O86.
  • Strong analytical and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel to various locations across Canada, up to 5 days in 60-90 days.
  • Must meet CISD Reliability Status clearance within 6 months of start date.

  • Provide technical guidance, quality reviews, and mentorship to engineers and designers.

Reporting to the VP, Structural Engineering, you will be an integral part of the engineering team, leading, developing and implementing technical solutions in both the office and field. You will participate in all project design phases, from feasibility assessment and detailed design, through tendering, construction, and commissioning. EastPoint is looking for a Junior Structural Engineer with 1 to 6 years of experience in the structural engineering industry. At EastPoint, we value growth and mentorship. Primary Accountabilities

We count on your expertise to:

  • Lead conceptual and detailed structural design for commercial and industrial buildings, institutional facilities, wharves, piers, bridges, and other infrastructure projects.
  • Manage the structural scope through feasibility assessment, design, tendering, construction and commissioning, including schedules, deliverables, and coordination with other disciplines.
  • Perform and check structural analyses and complex calculations, review drawings, specifications, reports, and change orders for technical quality and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Interpret Geotechnical Reports, bathymetric and topographical studies to develop foundation and structural design solutions.
  • Work directly with clients, architects, engineers, BIM technicians, contractors, and subconsultants to define requirements and resolve design and construction issues.
  • Provide technical guidance, quality reviews, and mentorship to engineers, engineers in training, and designers.
Skills / Training Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or degree in civil/structural engineering from an accredited University required. A master’s degree is considered an asset.
  • 10+ years’ of relevant structural engineering experience in the design and construction of buildings and infrastructure.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) in Nova Scotia, or the eligibility to obtain registration.
  • Experience with ETABS or similar structural analysis software.
  • Strong knowledge of structural design guidelines and codes including Bridge Code (CSA S6-19), Concrete Code (CSA A23.3), Steel Code (CSA S16) and Timber Code (CSA O86).
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with a high level of accuracy in calculations and design.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to travel to various locations across Canada, maximum 5 days per 60-90 days.
  • All successful applicants must meet requirements to obtain a minimum of Reliability Status clearance through the Canadian Industrial Security Directorate (CISD) within 6 months of start date.
