Job summary

EastPoint Engineering Limited in Halifax, Nova Scotia, seeks an experienced Architect to provide architectural expertise across all project phases. You will lead internal and external teams, develop building programs, and supervise schematic through warranty phases while ensuring quality and adherence to budget and schedule.

The ideal candidate has a Master’s in architecture, 5+ years of experience, and NSAA registration or eligibility, with strong knowledge of the National Building Code of

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in architecture is required.
  • Minimum of five years architecture experience.
  • Registered with NSAA or eligible for registration.
  • Excellent knowledge of the National Building Code of Canada.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate project teams.
  • Strong technical background in construction and architecture / engineering.
  • Professionalism and sound risk management judgement.
  • Experience working with client stakeholders and contracts.

Responsibilities

  • Design safe, accessible, cost effective building layouts for new buildings, additions and renovations.
  • Lead a project team of internal and external professionals, consultants, and service providers.
  • Manage projects from initiation through schematic, design development, construction docs, tender, construction administration to warranty.
  • Complete project designs on schedule and within budget.
  • Identify, analyze and mitigate project risks.
  • Assist with proposals and EastPoint’s marketing.
  • Ensure technical and design quality control.

About Our Opportunity

Reporting to the VP of Architecture, the Architect provides architectural, technical, and design expertise while coordinating the successful completion of assigned building projects. Your work will include managing projects from initiation and developing building programs through the phases of schematic, design development, construction documents, tender, construction administration, and warranty phase. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge of conceptual design, building planning and detailing, and construction documentation and administration.

Primary Accountabilities
  • Design safe, accessible, cost effective and efficient building layouts for the construction of new buildings, additions and renovations of existing facilities.
  • Work collaboratively in a diverse, inclusive and respectful manner with EastPoint’s fully in-house Architecture and Engineering Team.
  • Lead a project team of internal and external professionals, consultants and service providers on various projects.
  • Complete project designs on schedule and within budget.
  • Identify, analyze and mitigate project risks.
  • Assist with proposal preparation and EastPoint’s marketing.
  • Ensure technical and design quality control.
Skills / Training Requirements
  • Master’s degree in architecture,
  • Five (5) years minimum architecture related experience.
  • Registered member of the Nova Scotia Association of Architects (NSAA) or meet the requirements to become registered.
  • Excellent understanding of the National Building Code of Canada.
  • Experience leading and motivating a project team while inspiring confidence and creativity.
  • Strong technical background and firm understanding of the construction industry and architecture and engineering principles.
  • Excellent professionalism and judgement in risk management.
  • Experience working with client stakeholders and providing feedback or negotiating contracts and agreements.

Note: All successful applicants must meet requirements to obtain a minimum of Reliability Status clearance through the Canadian Industrial Security Directorate (CISD) within 6 months of start date.
