Baker Tilly Canada in Dartmouth, NS is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant, Assurance to join our growing team. You’ll contribute to planning, execution and completion of client engagements in the Audit or Private Enterprise streams, collaborating with a small, focused group to deliver high-quality financial reporting.

The role requires CPA in-waiting with 3–5 years of direct experience and prior supervision of junior staff.

Qualifications

• Must have completed the CFE and be CPA-in-waiting status.
• 3–5 years direct audit/assurance experience.
• Experience leading junior staff on client deliverables.
• Proficient with Caseware/Caseview and tax software.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, execution and completion of a wide range of clients in large client Audit or Private Enterprise streams.
• Supervise junior staff during field assignments and manage engagement progress.
• Analyze financial information and accounting processes; provide reconciliations and adjusting entries.
• Assess risk, controls, and adherence to the Financial Reporting Framework.
• Prepare personal, corporate, non-profit and charitable tax returns if on Private Enterprise team.
• Collaborate with peers and management on file planning and timely completion.
• Provide personal, attentive service to clients to foster strong working relationships.
• Prepare and review financial statements and related disclosures.

Your role:

• Assist in planning, execution and completion of a wide range of clients in either the large client Audit stream as part of a team, or the Private Enterprise stream focusing on Review and Compilation (T1, T2, T3, T5) engagements, both independently and as part of a small team.
• Supervise junior staff during field assignments, inform managers of engagement status, and manage engagement progress.
• Analyze financial information, accounting processes, and operations procedures; provide account reconciliations and propose adjusting entries.
• Assess risk, controls, operational performance, and adherence to the applicable Financial Reporting Framework.
• Prepare personal, corporate, non-profit organization, and charitable tax returns, if part of the private enterprise team.
• Collaborate with peers and senior management on file planning and completion within time constraints.
• Provide personal, attentive service to clients to encourage productive working relationships.
• Prepare and review financial statements and related note disclosures.

What you bring to the table:

• Successful completion of the Common Final Evaluation (CFE), at a minimum holding a status of CPA-in-waiting.
• Minimum of three to five years direct experience.
• Experience leading junior staff on client deliverables.
• Project management and strong organization skills.
• Experience with Caseware/Caseview, TaxPrep, Xero and Quickbooks (QBO) is an asset.
