The Role

The Senior Staff Accountant is a detail-oriented professional with strong financial acumen, understanding of corporate accounting, and the ability to maintain and update the general ledger, financial records, and financial statements. Your success in this role depends on your ability to complete delegated tasks efficiently and accurately.

Reporting to the Head of Finance and working closely with the team in Toronto, this role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving, as we operate with a lean team. You should enjoy working with people, processes, and figures, and be capable of connecting and collaborating across various roles and levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare journal entries to meet month-end close requirements.
  • Maintain the general ledger for multiple companies.
  • Assist in compiling month-end management reporting packages, including the consolidation of joint venture results.
  • Assist in submitting corporate reporting packages to meet deadlines.
  • Prepare and reconcile monthly bank statements.
  • Assist in preparing budgets and forecasts.
  • Prepare payroll files and reconcile them with expected monthly adjustments.
  • Prepare and file monthly sales tax returns.
  • Assist with audits and tax filings.
  • Identify and recommend efficiencies to improve financial processes.
  • Support commercial finance needs.
  • Handle ad-hoc requests to meet business needs.

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Problem-solving skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Exceptional time management and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality at all times.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in the advertising or related industry preferred.
  • CPA designation or enrollment in CPA program is a plus.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with Advantage and Cartesis is a plus.
