Job summary

Shiv Software Experts in Dorval, QC, Canada seeks a Senior Software & Hardware Engineering Specialist – Aerospace to lead assessments of supplier airborne software and hardware designs against requirements and regulatory standards.

You will review design artifacts, participate in PDR/CDR, evaluate evidence, and mentor engineers while supporting certification activities across DO-178/DO-254 and related guidance.

Qualifications

• Experience: 15+ years in technical engineering, incl. 10+ yrs in aerospace
• DO-178B/C familiarity for airborne software
• DO-254 familiarity for airborne hardware
• Minimum 5 years FPGA/ASIC or embedded software in aerospace applications
• Strong understanding of airborne software/hardware certification processes

Responsibilities

• Participate in Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR) and Critical Design Reviews (CDR)
• Review and assess supplier airborne software and electronic hardware certification plans
• Review designs involving embedded software, FPGA, ASIC, and PLD technologies
• Evaluate development, verification, validation, and certification evidence
• Conduct technical and process audits at supplier facilities
• Perform safety-of-flight and compliance reviews
• Assess software and hardware test results, analyses, and certification data
• Determine final technical and certification compliance status
• Lead resolution of safety, technical, process, and compliance deficiencies with suppliers
• Prepare/review design compliance and certification reports
• Support the SWEL domain roadmap evolution
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers

About the Role

In your role, you will review and assess supplier’s airborne software and electronic hardware designs to ensure they meet technical requirements and regulatory requirements

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR) and Critical Design Reviews (CDR).
• Review and assess supplier airborne software and electronic hardware certification plans.
• Review and assess supplier designs involving embedded software, FPGA, ASIC, and PLD technologies.
• Evaluate development, verification, validation, and certification evidence.
• Conduct technical and process audits at supplier facilities.
• Perform safety-of-flight and compliance reviews.
• Assess software and hardware test results, analyses, and supporting certification data.

Required Qualifications

• Requirements management and traceability using tools such as IBM DOORS, JAMA, or equivalent.
• Programming experience in C, C++, Ada, Assembly, and/or Python.
• Familiarity with hardware description languages and FPGA/ASIC development environments.
• Strong understanding of embedded computer architectures.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics, Software, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• 15+ years of technical engineering experience, including at least 10 years in aerospace/aeronautics.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in FPGA/ASIC development and/or embedded software development for aerospace applications.
• Strong working knowledge of airborne software and electronic hardware certification processes and Means of Compliance.
