About the role:
The Samsara Data Platform team develops core infrastructure to support data-driven products and decisions. As a Senior Data Platform Engineer, you will contribute to building a scalable and reliable data platform serving engineers, data scientists, product managers, and others. Your work will involve managing Big Data cloud infrastructure, enabling critical business insights, and exploring new product opportunities.

• Centralize production data into a data lake and scale storage as the company grows.
• Facilitate large-scale analytical reporting and integrate data science work into full-stack engineering.
• Create tools like orchestration frameworks and metadata catalogs to democratize data access.
• Optimize compute layers for reliability and performance using Spark/Databricks on EC2.

This is a remote position open to candidates based in Canada. Relocation assistance will not be provided.

In this role, you will:

• Design and implement end-to-end solutions using Spark, Delta Lake, Golang.
• Develop APIs and interfaces to deliver data insights.
• Optimize data workflows for scalability and reliability.
• Build libraries and tools for effective data management.
• Ensure uptime, reliability, and monitoring of the data platform.
• Embed Samsara’s cultural principles as we scale globally.

Minimum requirements:

• 4+ years of professional software experience in a production environment.
• 4+ years of experience building/maintaining large-scale data platforms, including Data Lakes.
• Expertise with Spark.
• Knowledge of AWS services (S3, Lambda, SQS, Kinesis).

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience with core data tech stacks like Spark (Databricks), Delta Lake, Trino, Iceberg.
• Familiarity with Terraform.

The annual base salary range for this role is CAD 126,225—$163,350, depending on experience and location.
