Job summary

Homebase, Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Engineer on the Core Product team in a hybrid Toronto role. You will build scheduling, HR management, and payroll features, shipping end-to-end with a focus on reliability and scalability.

You will lead projects, collaborate with Product, Design, and Data, and apply AI-driven improvements to workflows and code quality. The role emphasizes mentorship and ongoing impact across the team.

Qualifications

• Shipping production software that customers depend on.
• Strong background in Ruby on Rails.
• Clean design with solid tests and thoughtful trade-offs.
• Comfort in a high-velocity environment with fast shipping and iteration.
• Clear communicator with Product, Design, and Data.
• Experience with payroll, scheduling, or workforce management is a plus.
• Active AI fluency: using AI tools daily to improve work and show impact.
• Leads end-to-end components or services.
• Owns estimation, execution, and iterative improvement.

Responsibilities

• Ship end to end: design, build, launch features across Scheduling, HRM, and Payroll.
• Build it right: deliver reliable, testable, maintainable code.
• Connect the domains: fix seams between Scheduling, Time Tracking, HRM, Payroll.
• Be Customer Obsessed: focus on small business owners and fix issues.
• Build AI-first: use AI tools daily across design, code, tests, reviews.
• Raise the bar: provide strong code reviews and mentorship.
• Partner closely: work with PMs, Designers, Data.
• Your scope: lead implementation and mentor juniors.
