Job summary

Homebase is hiring a Senior Software Engineer on the Core Product team to build Scheduling, HRM, and Payroll tools. You will ship features end-to-end, own the code you deploy, and mentor teammates in a fast-paced, AI-first environment.

Ideal candidates have strong Ruby on Rails experience, solid engineering fundamentals, and a track record of delivering high-quality software in payroll/scheduling domains. Hybrid work with in-office days is required.

Qualifications

• Strong software engineering fundamentals with a track record of shipping production software.
• Excellent collaboration with Product, Design, and Data.
• Experience delivering features end-to-end in a fast-moving environment.
• Experience with payroll, scheduling, or workforce domains is a plus.

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Core Product team , you'll build the products small business owners rely on every single day: Scheduling, HR Management (HRM), and Payroll. This is where a shift becomes a timecard, becomes a paycheck, and where getting it right really matters.

You ship fast, own what you ship, and make the people around you better. You'll work alongside Product, Design, and Data, and you'll build the AI-first way. As an E3, you'll lead projects end to end and grow your impact across the team.

These are the key ways you'll contribute and create impact in this role:

• Ship end to end: Design, build, and launch features across Scheduling, HRM, and Payroll, and stay with them in production
• Build it right: Deliver reliable, testable, maintainable code where accuracy matters, from hours worked to dollars paid
• Connect the domains: Solve problems where Scheduling, Time Tracking, HRM, and Payroll meet, and make those seams invisible to customers
• Be Customer Obsessed: Stay close to the small business owners and workers who use what you build, and fix what hurts them first
• Build AI-first: Use AI and agentic tools daily across design, code, tests, and reviews, and share the workflows that work
• Raise the bar: Give sharp code reviews, advance Homebase engineering standards, and mentor the engineers around you
• Partner closely: Work with PMs, Designers, and Data to shape what we build and how fast we learn

Your scope: Lead the implementation of components and services, own estimates and delivery, and bring junior engineers along

• Strong software engineering fundamentals and a record of shipping production software that customers depend on
• Ideal candidate brings a strong background in Ruby on Rails

• Experience with payroll, scheduling, workforce management, or similarly complex business domains is a plus
