Job summary

Morningstar is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Backend) to design, build, and maintain scalable enterprise applications and APIs. The role emphasizes backend development with C#, .NET, and AWS, employing microservices and modern software practices.

Qualifications

Job description

Morningstar is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Backend) to design, build, and maintain scalable enterprise applications and APIs. The role focuses on backend development using C#, .NET, cloud technologies (AWS), microservices, and modern software engineering practices. The engineer will collaborate closely with Product Managers, QA, Project Managers, and other developers to deliver high-quality solutions that support Morningstar’s investment research and technology platforms.

Qualifications:

• A bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field in software development with 5+ years of experience.
• Highly motivated individual with the potential and desire to learn new technologies and take on increasing levels of responsibility.
• Advanced knowledge of C# and the Microsoft .NET Stack. Solid experience with Entity Framework, LINQ.
• Experience in Web APIs, MVC, Dependency Injection, Asynchronous programming.
• Experience with supporting technologies: Databases (SQL Server, AWS Aurora, MySQL, Postgres, NoSQL), Python, REST API’s
• Demonstrated ability to use AI tools responsibly for code generation, refactoring, unit test creation, documentation, debugging, and software design while maintaining strong engineering judgment and code ownership.
• Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated code for correctness, security, performance, maintainability, and compliance with software development standards.

Proven knowledge of enterprise software concerns such as security, scalability, transaction management, and concurrency.

Demonstrable experience architecting and building micro service solutions hosted on AWS.

An understanding of how to protect software solutions from common security vulnerabilities.

Exposure to and understanding of DevOps with tools like Harness.

Knowledge of object-oriented design, domain modeling, design patterns, and building highly scalable and available systems.

Base Salary Compensation Range

$93,200.00-$136,696.00

Incentive Target Percentage

12.5% Annual
