Henry Schein One Canada is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our True North team and help evolve Dentrix Ascend for the US market. You will design, develop, test, and deliver reliable software for a complex SaaS platform used by dental practices throughout their day.

You will work across the development lifecycle, contribute to technical decisions, resolve complex production issues, and help improve the quality and maintainability of the codebase.

• 5+ years of professional software development experience building complex web or SaaS applications.

About the Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our True North team and help build and evolve Dentrix Ascend for the US market.

In this role, you will design, develop, test, and deliver reliable software for a complex SaaS platform used by dental professionals throughout their day. You will work across the development lifecycle, contribute to technical decisions, resolve complex production issues, and help improve the quality and maintainability of the codebase.

This is a hands-on individual contributor role for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, collaborating across disciplines, and supporting the growth of other developers. You will work closely with Product, Engineering, UX, and Quality partners across our distributed organization.

Availability

This is a hybrid role, with one day per week in our Surrey, BC office to support collaboration, brainstorming, and team connection. Our office is located across from Guildford Mall.

What You’ll Do

• Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable software for the Dentrix Ascend platform
• Build high-quality backend services, APIs, database integrations, and user-facing functionality
• Translate product and business requirements into practical, maintainable technical solutions
• Contribute to technical design discussions and make recommendations that balance delivery, scalability, performance, and long-term maintainability
• Write clean, secure, well-tested code and participate actively in code reviews
• Investigate and resolve complex production issues, identifying root causes and implementing sustainable solutions
• Improve application performance, reliability, monitoring, and development workflows

What You’ll Bring

• 5+ years of professional software development experience, including experience building complex web or SaaS applications
• Strong experience with Java and modern object-oriented software development
• Experience with Groovy, Grails, Spring, or a comparable Java-based framework
• Experience designing, building, and consuming RESTful APIs
• Strong understanding of relational databases, SQL, data modelling, and ORM frameworks
• Experience writing unit, integration, and automated tests
• Experience working with cloud-based applications and modern development environments
• Familiarity with CI/CD practices, version control, containerization, and production monitoring
• Experience diagnosing performance, reliability, or scalability issues in production systems
• Understanding of software architecture, common design patterns, and secure development practices
• Experience working in an Agile development environment
• Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a distributed team
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience

• Experience with Groovy, Grails, Spock, Hibernate, or Liquibase
• Experience with React or another modern frontend framework
• Experience with microservices, distributed systems, or event-driven architecture
• Experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ, AWS SQS/SNS, or similar messaging technologies

• Experience profiling and optimizing application performance or database queries
• Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Dynatrace

Compensation and Benefits

The posted range for this position is between $130,000 CAD and $142,000 CAD, which is the expected starting base salary range for an employee who is new to the role through to someone who is fully proficient and experienced in the role. Many factors go into determining employee pay within the posted range, including prior experience, training, current skills, certifications, and education.
