Job summary

Google is seeking a Senior Software Developer, Backend, Applied AI Agent Studio to strengthen the Cloud AI platform in Waterloo/Toronto. You will work on backend services powering enterprise-grade AI agents, shaping scale, reliability and security across global deployments.

The role emphasizes building secure APIs, data pipelines, and collaboration with model builders, while mentoring junior engineers and driving end-to-end development across the product lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
  • 3 years of experience with one or more of: speech/audio, reinforcement learning, ML infrastructure, or specialization in another ML field.
  • 3 years of experience with ML infrastructure (deployment, evaluation, data processing, debugging).

Responsibilities

  • Design and scale secure infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform powering the generative AI agent lifecycle.
  • Build high‑performance APIs and backend services for AI agents enabling complex, open-ended dialogues.
  • Maintain data processing pipelines and backend logic to serve enterprise customers at scale.
  • Advocate backend security and reliability best practices for AI agents with high-profile customers.
  • Lead backend technical goals and mentor teams to deliver new capabilities with startup agility.

  • Design and scale secure infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) that powers the entire generative AI agent lifecycle, empowering developers to seamlessly build, evaluate, deploy, monitor, and optimize agents.
  • Bring strong system sensibility to design and implement high‑performance APIs and backend services that enable developers to build AI agents capable of complex, open‑ended dialogues and autonomous task completion.
  • Maintain the complex data processing pipelines and backend logic required to reliably support AI‑centric workflows, ensuring the platform serves enterprise customers around the world at scale.
  • Advocate back‑end security and reliability best practices, building systems capable of safely supporting AI agents interacting in complex, real‑world scenarios with high‑profile customers.
