Job summary

Staples Canada is seeking a Junior Software Developer for backend development using .NET and C#. The role focuses on building robust, scalable backend systems and microservices, with responsibilities spanning API design, data access layers, and Azure deployment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• Relevant coding bootcamp certification or equivalent practical experience.
• Microsoft Azure Fundamentals or C# certifications are a plus.
• Strong knowledge of C# and .NET framework (.NET 8+).
• Understanding microservices and cloud-native architectures.
• Experience with RESTful API design and data access layers.
• Familiarity with Azure services (App Service, Functions, Service Bus, SQL).
• Experience with Git and SDLC/Agile.
• Experience with EF Core or ORM tools.
• Experience with testing frameworks (xUnit, NUnit).

Specifically, You Will

• Develop and maintain backend applications and APIs using .NET and C#.


• Build and enhance microservices architecture components.


• Design and implement RESTful APIs and web services.


• Work with databases to create efficient data access layers.

Some Of What You Need

• Strong foundational knowledge of C# and .NET framework (.NET 8+).


• Understanding various design patterns and best practices.


• Good knowledge of microservices architecture concepts, Cloud Native services, Containerized Architecture.


• Expertise in RESTful API design and development.


• Database knowledge (SQL Server preferred, but open to other RDBMS).


• Familar understanding of Azure cloud services such as EventHub, Table Storage, Blob Storage.


• Experience with version control systems (Git).


• Understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile methodology.


• Experience with Azure services (App Service, Azure Functions, Service Bus, Azure SQL).


• Knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).


• Familiarity with message queues and event-driven architecture.


• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices (Azure DevOps).


• Experience with Entity Framework Core or other ORM tools.


• Knowledge of design patterns and software architecture principles.


• Experience with automated testing frameworks (xUnit, NUnit).


• Understanding of authentication and authorization (OAuth, JWT).


• Knowledge of caching strategies (Redis, Azure Cache).


• 5+ years of professional software development experience.


• 5+ years of experience with .NET Core/.NET 8+ and C# development.


• Basic experience with SQL databases and writing queries.


• Exposure to cloud platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure.


• Understanding of web service development and API integration.


• Experience with development tools like Visual Studio or VS Code.


• Familiarity with agile development methodologies is a plus.

Physical Demands/working Conditions

• Office environment – Hybrid, with 4 days onsite in Richmond Hill, subject to the hybrid policy.
