We are hiring a Senior Site Reliability / Gitops Engineer to our Information Systems (IS) team. This role offers an opportunity for an automation-focused senior technologist passionate about Linux to build a career with Canonical and support those leveraging Ubuntu and open source products. Job Summary

The IS team supports and maintains all of Canonical's IT production services, serving over 60 million Ubuntu users.

As a Senior SRE & Gitops engineer, you'll drive operations automation in our private and public clouds, utilizing open source infrastructure as code tools, CI/CD pipelines, and Canonical's automation products. You'll define infrastructure as code, improve Canonical products, and provide feedback to developers through bug reports and pull requests. You'll collaborate with various teams globally, supporting and supporting each other to deliver top services to our company, customers, and the Ubuntu community.

Responsibilities

• Lead automation and Gitops development as an embedded tech lead.
• Collaborate with IS architect to align solutions with architecture vision.
• Design and develop services as products for IS.
• Apply IaC principles to enhance automation and processes.
• Automate software operations for reusability and consistency across clouds.
• Maintain responsibility for core services, networks, and infrastructure.
• Develop troubleshooting, capacity planning, and performance skills, using observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Elasticsearch.
• Work with global engineering, operations, and support teams.
• Focus on larger projects and automation during dedicated development time.
• Share expertise through design sessions, mentorship, and collaborative work.
• Handle time-critical escalations.

Requirements

• Modern hosting architecture driven by infrastructure as code across clouds.
• Product mindset focused on developing products, not just solutions.
• Experience with Python in large projects.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes or similar container orchestration systems.
• Proven ability to deploy cloud infrastructure via code.
• Practical Linux networking, routing, and firewall knowledge.
• Experience with Linux storage solutions like Ceph or databases.
• Hands-on Linux server administration experience.
• Deep understanding of cloud computing technologies.
• Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or related field.
• Effective communication skills in English.
• Strong troubleshooting skills from kernel to web.
• Willingness to learn quickly and adapt.
• Passion for open source, especially Ubuntu or Debian.
