Senior Site Reliability / Gitops Engineer

Job Summary

The IS team supports and maintains all of Canonical's IT production services, serving over 60 million Ubuntu users. As a Senior SRE & Gitops Engineer, you will drive automation and infrastructure as code initiatives, improve our open-source products, and collaborate across teams to enhance operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Lead automation development and Gitops practices within your team.
• Align solutions with IS architecture vision by collaborating with the IS architect.
• Design and develop services as products for internal use.
• Implement and improve infrastructure as code practices, increasing automation.
• Automate software operations across private and public clouds, considering distributed system complexities.
• Maintain operational responsibility for core services, networks, and infrastructure.
• Develop troubleshooting, capacity planning, and performance monitoring skills using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and Elasticsearch.
• Collaborate with global engineering, operations, and support teams.
• Focus on larger projects with dedicated development time.
• Share expertise through design sessions, mentorship, and collaborative work.
• Manage time-critical escalations effectively.

Qualifications

• Experience with hosting architecture driven by infrastructure as code in private and public clouds.
• Product mindset with a focus on developing reusable products.
• Proficiency in Python with large-scale projects.
• Experience with Kubernetes or similar container orchestration systems.
• Proven ability to manage and deploy cloud infrastructure via code.
• Knowledge of Linux networking, routing, and firewalls.
• Familiarity with Linux storage solutions, including Ceph and databases.
• Hands-on experience with enterprise Linux servers.
• Deep understanding of cloud computing technologies.
• Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or related field.
• Effective communication skills in English across various channels.
• Strong troubleshooting skills from kernel to web layers.
• Adaptability, quick learning, and passion for open-source, especially Ubuntu or Debian.
