Job summary

Gilead is seeking a Senior Scientist, Process Development to lead chemical process development for drug substances. You will plan and execute multi-step syntheses, optimize routes, and collaborate with analytical, QA and manufacturing teams to enable clinical studies and commercialization.

Qualifications

• PhD in Organic Chemistry (or related discipline) and 2+ years of relevant experience.
• MSc degree with extensive industry experience (6+ years) OR
• BSc degree with extensive industry experience (8+ years)
• Experience in planning and executing multi-step synthesis of organic molecules
• Experience scaling up synthetic routes and developing safe processes
• Familiarity with purification and analytical techniques including HPLC, LCMS and NMR
• Familiarity with pilot plant/plant operations and master batch records is an asset
• Familiarity with process validation, regulatory filings and cGMP guidelines is an asset
• Strong desire to work in multi-disciplinary teams and solve problems
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to work independently and resourcefully
• Strong organizational and planning skills
• Experience with project and people management is an asset

Responsibilities

• Develop chemical processes for manufacturing drug substances.
• Demonstrate technical knowledge and creativity in research for new substances.
• Plan, execute, and analyze lab experiments to improve production attributes.
• Propose alternative chemistry and route optimization.
• Provide updates and future research directions to supervision.
• Collaborate across analytical, QA and manufacturing teams on projects.
• Prepare and review technical documents including MBRS and process development reports.
• Support manufacturing processes under cGMP in lab and scale-up operations.
• Ensure SOPs, safety and environmental standards are followed.
