The Senior Robotics & Controls Specialist will work with the Controls Engineering Manager, Technical Leaders, and cross-functional teams to support the Robotics and Controls group's vision, providing insights and ideas to improve processes, standards, and tools to enhance team effectiveness and efficiency.
What Would a Typical Day Look Like?
- Provide expertise and guidance during early project stages to develop specifications and set design directions.
- Design and develop code for automation equipment (PLCs, HMIs, Robots, Vision Systems) according to functional requirements and standards.
- Lead controls projects, ensuring targets are met within budget and schedule, and deliver excellent customer service.
- Implement best practices and standards in controls solutions in collaboration with the team.
- Apply critical thinking, judgment, and risk management to ensure engineering excellence.
- Lead controls project meetings to discuss risks, challenges, and strategies, building confidence among stakeholders.
- Support project updates, forecasts, and risk management, proposing plans for success.
- Mentor team members through oversight of programming, commissioning, testing, and cross-team support.
- Assist in hardware selection, testing, and integration, including robots, sensors, and vision systems.
- Debug and commission control systems at our facility and customer sites.
- Conduct comprehensive system testing to verify functionality and compliance.
- Travel domestically and occasionally internationally for installation, commissioning, and training.
- Collaborate to improve controls technology integration for safety, functionality, and cost-efficiency.
- Manage budgets and schedules effectively.
- Work with customers and internal teams to deliver comprehensive automation solutions.
- Document projects accurately, including manuals and training materials.
- Provide technical support and training to customers.
Note: The role may require working outside regular hours and travel up to 20% of the time, including to North America.
What Qualifies You for this Opportunity?
- Over 10 years of controls programming and commissioning experience in industrial automation.
- At least 5 years of leadership experience managing large projects and teams.
- Degree or diploma in Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Strong project leadership skills with emphasis on Controls Engineering.
- Experience with PackML, Food & Beverage, or Packaging standards is preferred.
- Knowledge of Machine Vision, AI, and inspection systems is a plus.
- Familiarity with machine building, conveyance, servos, and VFDs.
- Proficiency with Allen Bradley Studio 5000, Factory Talk View, Fanuc RoboGuide, and Siemens TIA Portal.
- Understanding of pneumatics, electrical schematics, and system interfaces.
- Knowledge of industrial networking protocols and CSA Safety Standards, especially for Cobots.
- Reliable transportation and ability to travel within US and Canada.

- Ability to stand, walk, sit, and use hands for various tasks.
- Visual acuity for detailed work, including close and peripheral vision.
- Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
