Construction Demathieu & Bard (CDB) Inc. is the Canadian subsidiary of Demathieu Bard, a company based in France with over 160 years of experience in the construction industry, and has been operating in Canada since 1997.
CDB specializes in major infrastructure construction and rehabilitation and is known for its innovative, complex construction methodologies and adaptability when undertaking challenging projects. As the general contractor, construction manager, and/or project manager, CDB continues to successfully deliver complex and challenging projects, particularly heavy infrastructure projects such as bridges, canals, dams, tunnels, culverts and viaducts.
Overview
This is a full-time position for Construction Demathieu & Bard's joint venture (referred to as Leaside Valley Builders) with EBC on the Don Valley Crossings project. The expected project duration is four years (estimated completion date: September 2028).
Work is to be performed in person at the joint-venture project located at 30 Commercial Road in East York, with visits to the project site locations in the Don Valley as required. You may also need to periodically visit to CDB's head office in Peterborough for events and training. As such, a driver's license and personal vehicle is required.
Work hours are between 40-50 hrs/week, 7:00AM - 5:30PM Monday to Friday.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Vice-President of Ontario, CDB is seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Construction Project Cost Controls Specialist to join our project team. The project controls specialist is responsible for generating, monitoring, analyzing, forecasting and reporting on project costs & budgets to ensure financial efficiency and alignment with project budgetary goals. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction cost management, forecasting, and financial reporting within large-scale infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain cost control systems, detailed estimates, budgets and procedures for infrastructure construction projects.
- Track & Report project costs versus budgeted costs, generate cost variance reports, track project expenditures, and forecasts.
- Prepare detailed cost reports, cash flow projection reports and dashboards for internal and external stakeholders.
- Analyze variances between planned, earned and actual costs and their impacts on the completion cost of the project.
- Report earned value & schedule analysis results, and recommend corrective actions.
- Support the development and maintenance of project schedules, and identify schedule deviations.
- Evaluate the cost and schedule impact of project changes, maintain change logs and documentations.
- Support the development & maintenance of cost and schedule risk and opportunities registry, and recommend risk mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, procurement, and finance teams to ensure cost control alignment.
- Support the preparation of project estimates, forecasts and budgets during the planning and execution phases.
- Assist in change management processes including cost impact analysis, cost tracking, claims analysis, and dispute resolution as applicable.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, contract requirements, and industry standards.
Qualifications required
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in - Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Finance, or a related field.
- Equivalent experience in Construction Cost Control Roles.
Certifications/licenses
- Preferred but not Mandatory - Certification in cost control or project management (e.g., CCP, PMP, AACE).
Experience and Knowledge
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in project cost controls roles within the infrastructure or heavy civil construction industry.
- Proficiency in cost control & tracking software such as Primavera P6, Maestro, Procore, or MS Excel (advanced).
- Advanced knowledge in project cost, schedule and risk management principles.
- Knowledge of earned value management (EVM) principles and project performance metrics is a plus.
- Certification such as CCP (Certified Cost Professional) or PMP is desirable.
Core Competencies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, co-ordinating with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience working on large-scale heavy civil infrastructure projects (e.g., highways, bridges, dams, hydro, rail, utilities, and/or similar projects).
- Familiarity with construction contracts, and payment procedures and terms (e.g., OPSS, MTO terms, NET 30, FIDIC, NEC).
- Understanding of scheduling, panning principles and earned value tracking for major projects.
Job Specific Competencies
- Proficiency in project control software (e.g., Maestro, Primavera P6, Procore, MS Project, Excel).
