Job summary

BMO Financial Group is seeking a Senior Manager in Risk Governance to design, implement, oversee, and enhance risk governance frameworks and practices across the enterprise. The role provides governance expertise, independent challenge, and strategic advisory support to ensure effective governance and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• 7–10 years of experience in risk management, governance, compliance, audit, internal controls, or related disciplines.
• Experience developing, implementing, or overseeing governance frameworks, policies, standards, or enterprise oversight programs.
• Strong understanding of governance, risk management, regulatory expectations, and internal control principles in large financial institutions.
• Ability to lead complex, cross-functional initiatives and influence senior stakeholders.
• Strong strategic thinking, analytical, problem-solving, communication, and relationship management skills.

Responsibilities

• Leads design, development, and ongoing enhancement of risk governance frameworks, standards, and methodologies.
• Establishes governance practices aligning with RMF and regulatory expectations.
• Provides strategic governance advice and challenges to stakeholders.
• Leads assessments of governance effectiveness and identifies improvement opportunities.
• Oversees governance reporting, metrics, and management information for executive decisions.
• Identifies emerging governance and regulatory trends and translates them into actionable recommendations.
• Leads complex governance initiatives, including change management and stakeholder engagement.
• Supports regulatory examinations, audits, and remediation activities.
• Develops governance tools and resources to promote consistency and transparency.
• Builds partnerships across the three lines of defence and across jurisdictions.
