We are looking for a Senior Risk Consultant I for the Marine line of business. If you have loss prevention engineering experience in inland marine, construction, and property, this role is for you! This is a hybrid position based in our Toronto, Ontario office.

Our Marine Risk Consultants have expertise in all areas of marine, drawing on years of experience as master mariners, engineers, supply-chain specialists, and logistics & cargo experts. Technical expertise and proactive risk management solutions span intermodal cargo, hull, inland marine, ports, and terminals.

Our Allianz Risk Consulting (ARC) team is made up of experienced engineers from a wide range of technical and scientific disciplines. The team provides a flexible range of risk consulting services, from natural hazards, fire safety, and human and organizational risk factors to in-depth analysis of industry operations and financial exposures, across all industry sectors and risks. We also focus on delivering bespoke training plans that help our clients optimize risk management procedures in the long term.

Whether a specialized SME, a mid-sized company, or a multinational giant, we understand the need to respond quickly to crisis scenarios that affect operations, reputation, and revenue. We create tailor-made risk management services to respond to unique challenges.

The Impact You Will Have

Reporting to the Global Head of Marine Risk Consulting, this role is responsible for providing loss control expertise, support, and assistance to AzC and its customers, to assist Allianz underwriting in risk selection and retention. You will develop and maintain professional relationships with Underwriting, Market Management, Communications, Claims, clients, and brokers. Maintain and enhance your technical skills and expertise to support the business.

Some of your specific responsibilities could include:

  • Complete desktop reviews and risk assessments for Builder's risk, Motor truck cargo, Monoline property, and Warehouse legal liability (pre & post binding) as requested by Underwriting.
  • Work with underwriting, claims, the client, and the broker to develop customized loss control programs, including locations to be surveyed, scope, and cost of risk consulting services.
  • Generate and review reports and recommendations, meeting reporting deadlines in accordance with departmental objectives.
  • Survey client operations, obtain data, identify hazards, discuss findings, and generate loss control reports and recommendations.
  • Appoint and monitor third parties, ensuring contracts and controls are in place with budgets agreed upon. Check and ensure quality of work provided by third parties.
  • Assist AzC and clients with ongoing or specific projects. Support technical training presentations as required.

What You’ll Bring to the Role –

  • A minimum of 3 years’ loss prevention engineering experience in Inland Marine, Construction & Property.
  • Good knowledge and professional experience in relevant business sectors.
  • Insurance risk consulting experience and a professional engineering license are a plus. Experience in a global organization with adaptability to change.
  • A bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (preferably related to the line of business). Other disciplines considered with extensive technical experience.
  • Technical engineering expertise, commitment to staying updated with new technologies, and knowledge of specific business sectors.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, presentation skills, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel throughout the US and Canada, with some international travel possible.
  • Willingness to utilize AI tools to support tasks, improve efficiency, and contribute to data-driven decisions, with a willingness to learn about AI enhancements.

The annualized base pay range for this role is $95,359 - $148,418, determined by factors like scope, skills, and location. Compensation includes a base salary, performance-based incentives, and benefits.
