Job summary

TAQA North is seeking a Senior Reservoir Engineer in Calgary to lead appraisal and development projects, defining reservoir properties and long-term depletion strategies with the asset team. You will work with geologists and completions experts to optimize designs and maximize asset value.

The role involves mentoring colleagues, contributing to reserve evaluations, and supporting JV and regulatory activities while based in the downtown Calgary office.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 10+ years of Oil & Gas experience.
  • Professional Engineering designation (P.Eng. with APEGA)
  • Strong leadership and project management skills with ability to manage multiple assignments
  • Enthusiastic, motivated team player with good communication and organizational skills

Responsibilities

  • Develop optimal depletion strategies for assigned areas.
  • Integrate geological, geophysical, and engineering data across conventional and unconventional reservoirs.
  • Perform type curve and well test analysis on prospective reservoirs.
  • Construct reservoir models with geoscience staff to quantify resource in place and identify opportunities.
  • Apply reservoir engineering knowledge including rate/pressure transient analysis and EOR.
  • Determine optimal well design and density in collaboration with disciplines.
  • Complete annual reserve evaluation of producing wells/pools.
  • Assess potential and execute on enhanced recovery projects.
  • Support prioritized business valuations and commercial initiatives.
  • Assist JV and Mineral Land staff with non-operated asset assessments.
  • Provide mentorship to junior engineers.

Job description

TAQA North is currently searching for a Senior Reservoir Engineer. Reporting to the Asset Manager, the successful candidate will be a key member of the multi-disciplinary asset team, driving value generation through the identification, characterization, planning and execution of appraisal and development projects. The role will require the successful candidate to provide Reservoir Engineering expertise and support as needed to the Central Asset Team.

You will conduct fundamental reservoir performance assessments for assigned properties. Working with multi-disciplinary teams, you will define key reservoir properties and develop and implement long-term depletion strategies with the goal of maximizing asset value. The successful candidate will work closely with geologists and completions experts to help define optimal completion designs to maximize productivity and recovery.

This position is based out of the Calgary office located downtown.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing optimal depletion strategies for assigned areas
  • Together with the team, integrating geological, geophysical, and engineering data across a broad scope of conventional and unconventional reservoirs
  • Performing type curve and well test analysis on prospective reservoirs
  • Constructing reservoir models as required in conjunction with geoscience staff to quantify resource in place, assess performance, and identify opportunities
  • Applying reservoir engineering knowledge, including rate and pressure transient analysis, reservoir modelling, volumetrics, material balance, waterflood/EOR analysis and other related interpretation techniques
  • In conjunction with other disciplines, determining optimal well design and well density
  • Completing the annual reserve evaluation of existing producing wells/pools
  • Assessing the potential, making recommendations, and executing on enhanced recovery projects
  • Supporting prioritized business development valuations and commercial initiatives
  • Assisting Joint Venture and Mineral Land staff with the assessment of non-operated assets
  • Providing mentorship to less experienced colleagues within the Development organization

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 10+ years of experience in Oil & Gas. Previous experience working in as a Reservoir Engineer is preferred.
  • Professional Engineering designation (P.Eng. with APEGA) required
  • Enthusiastic, highly motivated team player with good communication, organizational and technical skills
  • Strong leadership and project management skills, with a track record of successfully managing and executing multiple assignments with minimal supervision
  • A practical mindset and strong commercial acumen
  • Experience working with Harmony, WellTest, AccuMap, ValNav, WellView and Petrel/Eclipse/Intersect
  • Creative individual with a desire to continuously learn and develop their own skills, as well as build up the organizational capacity of more junior engineers
  • Experience in generating risked production profiles and recoverable volume estimates for both conventional and unconventional Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin plays
  • Experience with external stakeholder communications/negotiations (partners, government)
  • Experience with AER regulatory applications/amendment/approvals
  • This role is based in Calgary with occasional field travel
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Ability to provide three satisfactory professional references and complete a satisfactory criminal background check.
