Job summary

Canadian Natural Resources Limited is seeking a Facilities Engineer for our Calgary head office. You will engineer and optimize Western Canadian oil and gas facilities, manage capital projects, and support safety and regulatory compliance across Operations and Production teams.

The role involves field travel, working with a dynamic team, and delivering cost reductions, reliability improvements and GHG reductions through new technologies and design improvements.

Qualifications

  • APEGA registered P.Eng. in good standing and relevant experience in design, construction and operation of Western Canadian conventional oil & gas facilities.
  • Experience with facility process safety reviews through MOC, PHA, HAZOP and similar techniques.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Promote innovative technologies and optimal designs for facility applications across the Operations, Facilities and Production teams.
  • Promote safety awareness and field safety during regular project field trips.
  • Provide technical support on codes, standards, materials and problem solving for facility issues.
  • Manage capital projects and optimization initiatives from scoping to close-out, including permit and regulatory applications.

Job description

Make your mark while you grow your career!Canadian Natural is looking for a Facilities Engineer for our Calgary head office! You will work with a dynamic group of professionals in the Facility, Operations and Production teams to engineer and construct new or optimize existing facilities in Alberta. Your work will include identifying opportunities for enhanced production, reduced costs, improved reliability and safety, debottlenecking, greenhouse gas reductions and implementing new technology.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Promote innovation with Operations, Facilities andProduction Engineering input ensuring optimal technologies and designs are used for each facility application while sharing incorporated operational experience throughout the company
  • Encourage safety awareness within your projects and actively promote safety in the field during your regular trips to perform project work and meet with Canadian Natural’s operations
  • Be knowledgeable and work in accordance with all applicable codes, guidelines, directives and regulations
  • Manage new and sustaining capital projects plus optimization initiatives from scoping to close-out(including all permit and regulatory applications) through Canadian Natural’s Management of Change program
  • Provide technical support for Operations and Production such as identifying applicable code and Canadian Natural standards, material specification, troubleshooting and problem solving of facility issues
  • Participate in the area production team meetings to ensure alignment of goals and priorities with front line staff as well as liaise with the area superintendents and production managers on work prioritization

What you bring to the Role:

  • APEGA registered P.Eng. in good standing, showing application of your engineering degree through a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in the design, construction and operation of Western Canadian conventional oil and gas production facilities
  • Experience in facilities process safety review through MOC, PHA, HAZOP, “What if” and other applicable techniques
  • A proven team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships while demonstrating a high level of cooperation and mutual respect
  • Additional positive attributes for the position:
    • Gas and/or oil processing plus piping design related experience
    • Field-based operational or engineering support experience including facility optimization, troubleshooting, field supervision and managing construction personnel
    • Solid organizational, analytical, and multitasking skills, such as being able to manage several projects concurrently
    • Proficiency in spreadsheets and engineering software applications
