Placements24 is seeking a Senior Research Engineer in Materials Science to join its R&D team in Kimberley. You will lead projects from concept to prototype, applying synthesis, processing, and testing to create advanced materials with diverse applications.

You will mentor junior researchers, manage projects, and contribute to reports, publications, and patent disclosures, while collaborating in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in materials research and development.
• Proven expertise in material synthesis, characterization techniques (e.g., SEM, TEM, XRD, spectroscopy), and mechanical testing.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, synthesis, and characterization of novel materials, including polymers, ceramics, composites, or nanomaterials.
• Develop and optimize material processing techniques to achieve desired performance characteristics.
• Conduct comprehensive material testing and analysis to evaluate mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties.
• Troubleshoot material-related issues and develop innovative solutions to overcome technical challenges.
• Prepare detailed technical reports, research publications, and patent disclosures.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of scientific excellence.
