Job summary

Hitachi Rail Limited is seeking a Software Architect to lead design, development, integration, and testing of critical software in the railway signaling domain. You will define software architecture, implement solutions, and ensure alignment with safety-critical development processes throughout the project lifecycle.

You will collaborate with Systems Engineering, lead reviews, and mentor teams while advancing secure, high-performance software across Windows/Linux environments.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in URS systems and software lifecycle.
• Expert-level software architecture and requirements engineering.
• CI/CD pipelines experience.
• Secure coding practices and standards.
• Knowledge of SelTrac CBTC railway signaling.
• Experience with Git, Jira, Eclipse, ClearCase, ClearQuest, DOORS, Jenkins, Docker, AWS.
• Strong English communication skills.
• 3+ years test automation.
• 1+ year experience with AI frameworks/LLMs (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, MCP Servers).
• Expert in mission-critical/near real-time software development.
• Proficiency in C/C++ including STL/Boost and OO concepts.
• Experience with Perl/Ruby scripting; multithreading and Windows development.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, testing, and integration of high-complexity software components within safety-critical systems.
• Analyze customer needs and lifecycle requirements through studies, simulations, prototypes, and models.
• Contribute to software architecture development and refinement of functional/non-functional requirements.
• Design, code, debug, test, and review software while leading design reviews.
• Analyze defects, implement fixes, and support troubleshooting in lab and field environments.
• Develop software cost estimates, assess risks, and support bid/tender activities.
• Coordinate with Systems Engineering to ensure architecture consistency.
• Define and govern software architecture across the lifecycle.
• Lead architecture strategies and cost/schedule/tech trade-offs.
• Ensure secure coding practices and software reuse.
• Evaluate emerging technologies to improve software development.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and training.
