Job summary

Questrade Technology Group (QTG) is seeking a Senior QA Engineer to provide expert automated and manual QA across backend services and APIs. You will design test strategies, write plans and cases, and develop automated regression suites while collaborating with onshore and offshore teams.

The role requires strong Python/TypeScript skills, experience with RESTful APIs, SQL/NoSQL, and knowledge of cloud pipelines. A hybrid work schedule is available with onsite days.

The Senior Quality Assurance Engineer will provide a high level of expertise in the areas of Automated and Manual QA activities for applications developed by Questrade Technology Group (QTG), with particular focus on API Testing, backend web applications, microservices and high volume data flow/transactions. The QA Engineer should have strong development, communication and planning skills as well as in-depth knowledge of quality assurance techniques, testing concepts, methodologies and tools

In this role, responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Understand application workflow and write test strategies, test plans, and test cases throughout the development lifecycle
• Ensure test plans thoroughly cover all requirements and use cases
• Plan, schedule and perform manual and automated software tests
• Improve current test suites in order to achieve better coverage and quality
• Develop automated regression test suites using automated testing tools
• Foster a continuous improvement approach to QA activities
• Work closely with developmentto perform early testing on components prior to integration builds
• Setup and configure test environments and import test data
• Manage defect tracking and proactively identify risks to management monitor and report results
• Perform root cause analysis of defects, conduct lessons learned meetings and propose improvements in processes and methodologies
• Assists and actively participates in the communication between local and offshore development and QA teams, ensuring knowledge is shared efficiently
• Participate in sprint planning activities and provide estimates for manual and automated testing work
• Proficient in working with Linux environments, including basic shell scripting to manage and maintain test environments
• Experience using Python and TypeScript to build, maintain and enhance automated test suites
• Familiarity with performance testing tools and methodologies, with the ability to design, implement and analyze performance tests to ensure system reliability and scalability

• 5+ years’ experience at QA Engineering role
• Exposure to non-functional testing (e.g. Performance and Security)
• Strong knowledge of Python or JavaScript, asynchronous programming
• Back-end testing including APIs (RESTful API), basic SQL skills, mocking APIs;
• Git or GitHub, Postman, Jira (or other similar tools)
• Knowledge of software development life cycle, methodologies and testing
• Experience with cloud technologies and modern pipelines
• Solid knowledge of quality assurance techniques, testing concepts, methodologies and tools
• Ability to apply concepts of unit, system, regression, product, integration and acceptance testing
• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to investigate and research multiple sources
• Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases
• Knowledge of trading systems and trading concepts, particularly within the equities realm, is considered an asset
• AI-Assisted Development: Eagerness to integrate AI tools (e.g., Claude) into daily engineering workflows — code generation, review, debugging, and documentation — to accelerate delivery and improve quality.

Compensation Information:

• Base salary range: $100,000 - $130,000
• The final compensation package will be commensurate with the successful candidate's experience, skills, and geographic location (Canada). It includes a comprehensive benefits plan and a competitive incentive (bonus) program for Full-Time Permanent roles.
