Job summary

Questrade Financial Group seeks a Software Engineer to design, build, test and deploy features across the full software lifecycle, specializing in front-end (React Native/ReactJS) and back-end (NodeJS) work or both. You will write production-grade code, participate in code reviews, and maintain automated tests in a hybrid Toronto or Calgary office.

You will translate requirements into solid designs, address debt and reliability, and collaborate with a diverse team on scalable solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in CS/SE.
• 2+ years of professional experience building and supporting production software.
• Strong proficiency in front-end or back-end tracks (React/Node.js)

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and deploy features across the full software lifecycle with limited supervision.
• Translate product requirements into sound technical designs, flagging gaps, dependencies, and edge cases early in discovery.
• Write production-grade code that meets standards for readability, performance, security, and observability.
• Review peers' code with rigor and provide actionable feedback
• Build and maintain automated test suites and contribute to CI/CD improvements
• Diagnose and resolve production issues and participate in on-call rotations
• Address technical debt and improve system reliability and developer experience

The Software Engineer is responsible for designing, building, testing, and deploying features across the full software development lifecycle, on the front end (React Native, ReactJS), the back end (NodeJS), or both. Operating with limited supervision, this role focuses on writing production-grade code that meets standards for readability, performance, security, and observability. The engineer will also participate in code reviews, maintain automated test suites, resolve production issues, and address technical debt.

In this role, responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Design, build, test, and deploy features across the full software lifecycle with limited supervision.

• Review peers' code with rigor and care, providing actionable feedback and mentoring junior developers through pairing.
• Build and maintain automated test suites and contribute to improvements in CI/CD pipelines and deployment practices.
• Diagnose and resolve production issues within scope, participating in on-call rotations and documenting root causes.
• Identify and address technical debt, proposing and executing improvements to system reliability and developer experience.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2+ years of professional experience building and supporting production software.
• Strong proficiency in at least one of the following tracks:

• Front-end track: JavaScript/TypeScript with React Native (mobile) and/or ReactJS (web); solid grasp of component architecture and state management.
• Back-end track: Node.js/TypeScript; hands-on experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs within microservices or service-oriented architectures.

• Practical experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases, including basic query performance tuning.
• Hands-on experience with a major cloud platform (GCP preferred; AWS or Azure considered) and containerized workloads.

Preferred Qualifications

• DevOps and Infrastructure-as-Code tooling (Kubernetes, Terraform).
• Message brokers and event streaming platforms (Kafka, Pub/Sub).
• Exposure to the other track (front-end candidates with NodeJS familiarity, or back-end candidates with ReactJS/React Native familiarity).
• Angular experience is a nice-to-have.
• Domain experience in financial services, brokerage, trading, or regulated environments.
• Knowledge of secure development practices, threat modeling, or DevSecOps

Compensation Information:

• Base salary range: $80,000- $120,000
• The final compensation package will be commensurate with the successful candidate's experience, skills, and geographic location (Canada). It includes a comprehensive benefits plan and a competitive incentive (bonus) program for Full-Time Permanent roles.
