Job summary

Questrade Financial Group is seeking a hands-on Team Lead, Software Engineering to lead a squad of engineers responsible for full‑stack solutions. You will own a system within the squad, guide technical direction, and ensure high‑quality delivery while coaching others.

You will mentor engineers, review designs and code, stay current with AI-assisted development, and partner with People & Culture on performance and hiring.

Qualifications

• Senior-level, hands-on full-stack experience with deep expertise in at least one core stack.
• Experience leading or coordinating delivery within a squad; strong communication and sound judgment on localized tech decisions.
• Fluency with AI-assisted development and governance of AI-generated code.

Responsibilities

• Lead the engineers of one squad: coordinate development, delivery, and SDLC health.
• Provide direct technical mentorship and stay current with industry trends.
• Own a specific system/feature area and drive day-to-day technical decisions.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and communicate complex topics clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Partner with People & Culture on performance reviews, hiring, and developer growth.
• Ensure policy adherence and drive squad-level process improvements.

We are hiring a hands‑on Team Lead to lead the engineers of one squad - coordinating the development, improvement, and delivery of full‑stack solutions, owning a specific system within the squad's portfolio, and reinforcing SDLC health. You will stay close to the code while growing people, setting technical direction within your domain, and partnering with People & Culture (P&C) on people processes.

• Technical delivery: Bring deep, senior‑level full‑stack expertise; stay involved in code reviews, architectural design, development/QA, and troubleshooting and production support alongside the team.
• Mentorship & tech: Provide direct technical mentorship, stay current on industry trends, and evaluate new technologies that benefit the team.
• Ownership: Make sensible day‑to‑day technical decisions within agreed standards; own a specific system or feature area and keep the team's development process running smoothly.
• Vision & communication: Operate with clear purpose; identify and collaborate with stakeholders; explain complex topics to technical and non‑technical audiences; write clear documentation.
• People & culture: Build an engaged, inclusive team; give timely, constructive feedback; own performance reviews, hiring, and career development in partnership with P&C.
• Governance: Ensure your team's adherence to policies and standards, suggest squad‑level process improvements, and collaborate with governance teams within your domain.

• AI‑assisted workflow: Use AI coding assistants/agents fluently and coach the team to do so safely; treat review of AI‑generated code as a larger effort than writing it, keeping humans accountable for what ships.
• Standards & guardrails: Set and enforce code‑review standards for AI‑generated code as a control layer; ensure it meets the same security/quality bar, aligned with secure‑dev practices and Questrade IT/cyber policies.
• Capability building: Prioritize AI fluency, systems thinking, and output‑evaluation judgment when developing and hiring engineers; adapt practices as tooling evolves.

• Fluency with AI‑assisted development and the judgment to review, evaluate, and govern AI‑generated code.
• A people‑first mindset and comfort partnering with P&C on performance, hiring, and development, and with IT/cyber governance on policy adherence.

Compensation Information:

• Base salary range: $150,000 - $180,000
• The final compensation package will be commensurate with the successful candidate's experience, skills, and geographic location (Canada). It includes a comprehensive benefits plan and a competitive incentive (bonus) program for Full‑Time Permanent roles.
