Job summary

Cognizant in Toronto is seeking a Senior Python Developer to build Python-based automation tools, improve observability, and support merchandising platforms across enterprise systems.

You will work in a hybrid model, with three days per week at client or Cognizant offices in Toronto, collaborating with SRE, Engineering, and Operations to boost reliability and performance.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software development or engineering experience.
• Strong Python development, automation frameworks, APIs, data processing.
• Experience with SRE practices: monitoring, alerting, observability, incident management.
• Solid understanding of data science concepts, analytics, and statistical modelling.
• Experience with monitoring/observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog, Splunk, Dynatrace, ELK, or similar platforms.

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Python Developer with expertise in Python, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Automation, and Data Science to develop and support scalable automation solutions that improve system reliability, operational efficiency, and business performance. The role will focus on building Python-based automation tools, enhancing observability, analysing reliability data, and supporting merchandising-related business processes across enterprise platforms.

In this role, you will:

• Design, develop, and maintain Python-based automation solutions to improve operational efficiency, reliability, and scalability across enterprise applications.

What you need to have to be considered

• 8+ years of software development, automation engineering, SRE, or platform engineering experience.
• Strong hands‑on experience in Python development, including automation frameworks, APIs, data processing, and scripting.
• Experience with Site Reliability Engineering practices, including monitoring, alerting, observability, incident management, and operational excellence.
• Good understanding of data science concepts, data analysis, statistical modelling, and predictive analytics.
• Experience working with monitoring and observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog, Splunk, Dynatrace, ELK, or similar platforms.

These will help you stand out

• Experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible), and container technologies.
• Experience with machine learning libraries and advanced analytics tools.
• Experience supporting large retail, e-commerce, or merchandising platforms.
• Relevant certifications in Python, Cloud Technologies, DevOps, SRE, or Data Science.

Total compensation

We regularly assess market data to ensure we offer a competitive compensation package for our associates. The base salary for this position ranges between CAD 60300– CAD 95500 per year. Where the successful candidate may fall within the range depends on relevant education, work and/or management experience and other business‑related and job‑necessary qualifications. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual performance‑based bonus, as well as benefits that support your physical, mental and financial wellbeing.
