Job description

Bluelime Technical Services is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead and support major electric utility projects across Canada and the United States. The successful candidate will bring 15+ years of project management experience, with a strong background in the electric utility, energy, engineering, or infrastructure sectors.

This role will support complex projects across transmission, distribution, substations, and related electrical infrastructure, providing leadership throughout the project lifecycle from planning and design through construction, commissioning, and closeout.

The Senior Project Manager will work closely with utility clients, engineering teams, contractors, suppliers, field personnel, and senior stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with scope, schedule, budget, quality, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of complex electric utility projects.
  • Provide overall project leadership and accountability for scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, and performance.
  • Develop and manage project execution plans, schedules, budgets, forecasts, and resource requirements.
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams across engineering, construction, procurement, project controls, field services, and other functions.
  • Establish project objectives, deliverables, milestones, and performance measures.
  • Manage relationships with utility clients, contractors, consultants, suppliers, and other key stakeholders.
  • Provide regular project status updates, forecasts, financial reporting, and performance reporting to clients and senior leadership.
  • Identify, assess, and manage project risks, issues, constraints, and dependencies.
  • Lead change management, scope management, and resolution of project issues.
  • Oversee contractor and supplier performance, including progress, quality, schedule, commercial requirements, and deliverables.
  • Coordinate engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and field activities to maintain project alignment.
  • Review and interpret contracts, specifications, drawings, schedules, and technical documentation.
  • Support commercial management, contract administration, procurement, and negotiations as required.
  • Ensure projects comply with applicable utility standards, regulatory requirements, health and safety requirements, environmental requirements, and quality standards.
  • Lead project meetings, stakeholder reviews, progress meetings, and executive-level presentations.
  • Provide mentorship and leadership to project managers, coordinators, engineers, and other project team members.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, cost efficiencies, and improved project delivery.
  • Support business development activities, client relationship management, proposals, and new project opportunities where required.
  • Lead project closeout, lessons learned, final documentation, and performance reviews.
Qualifications
  • 15+ years of progressive project management experience, preferably within the electric utility, energy, engineering, construction, or major infrastructure sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex projects involving transmission, distribution, substations, or related electrical infrastructure.
  • Proven experience managing multidisciplinary teams and multiple project stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of project controls, scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, risk management, change management, and contract administration.
  • Experience working directly with electric utilities, EPC contractors, engineering firms, or major infrastructure organizations.
  • Strong commercial and contractual understanding, with experience managing contractors, suppliers, and project agreements.
  • Post-secondary education in Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management, Business, or a related discipline.
  • PMP or equivalent project management certification is considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and project management/scheduling systems.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and make sound project decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to travel to project sites across Canada and the United States as required.
  • Experience working within regulated utility environments is considered an asset.

The ideal candidate is an experienced project leader who can take ownership of complex utility projects, build strong client relationships, and effectively lead multidisciplinary teams. They will be comfortable working at both the strategic and project execution levels, with the ability to understand technical requirements while maintaining focus on commercial, schedule, cost, safety, quality, and stakeholder objectives.
