Job summary

Belcan is seeking an experienced Project Manager to drive project management processes across mechanical and electrical engineering initiatives in Calgary, with collaboration across Sales, Engineering and Service.

The role involves coaching PMs, resource planning, scheduling, procurement, and active involvement in reviews and handoffs to clients and vendors.

Qualifications

• University Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• PMP designation is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Lead project management processes; coach and mentor PMs/Coordinators in practices and planning.
• Coordinate with Sales, Engineering and Service for resource planning and priority setting.
• Receive, review and assign projects and orders considering workload and complexity.
• Develop and manage production/drawing schedules, inspection/test plans and progress reports.
• Provide packaging/fabrication/testing instructions and coordinate shop testing and site commissioning.
• Manage procurement of equipment/materials including QA inspections and record-keeping.
• Support performance appraisals and coaching; foster team development.
• Chair internal project reviews with customers/vendors and lead handover meetings.
• Provide direct management to PM/PC/SC and lead decisions on critical issues.

Key Accountabilities :

Drive project management processes ; coach and mentor Project Managers and Coordinators (Project/Sales) in the use of people, tools and project management accepted practices, planning, controlling, reporting and recovering projects

• Maintain constant communication with Sales in order to plan future resources for project execution as well as regular interaction with Engineering and Service to contribute in the decision making process for scheduling of resources and priorities
• Receive, review and assign projects and retail orders from Sales to the members of project management group taking in consideration the work load and complexity of the projects
• Develop, maintain and manage production and drawing schedules, inspection and test plans and progress reports in a professional project management format
• Provide specific packaging / fabrication and testing instructions to the service department and continue to coordinate including shop testing and site commissioning
• Manage the procurement of equipment and materials including performing quality assurance inspections and maintaining records
• Supervise and participate in the execution of monthly project profitability reporting including actively participating in internal reviews and presenting final reports to senior management
• Support in the completion of yearly performance appraisals, setting up objectives and proposing compensation as well as providing coaching and mentoring to the team on an ongoing basis
• Propose and chair internal project review meetings with customers, vendors or internal contributors and stakeholders including participation in handover and kick off meetings and leading regular production meetings for coordination with Service department
• Provide direct management, participation and support to PM, PC and SC at any stage of the project and in dealing with critical project matters like legal or commercial issues, technical discrepancies, major delays and recovery plans, etc. Lead the decision making process.
• Leadership / Supervision: Supervise a small work group providing daily work direction

Required Qualifications

Education: University Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering; Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is an asset

Work Experience: 10 years

Knowledge: Experience in Project Management" medium to large size commissioning project exposure
