Job Overview
The Senior Project Engineer position is responsible for overall technical management of large-scale renewable energy projects through late-stage development, construction, and commissioning phases of a project, as well as supporting the transition to operations and asset management.
This role requires strong technical expertise, project management, skills, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver projects on time, within budget, and in compliance with regulatory standards.
Engineering Leadership & Strategy
- Lead and coordinate all engineering functions during preconstruction, construction, commissioning, and turnover to operations.
- Collaborate across departments and disciplines, providing and soliciting peer reviews for technical content.
- Supervise external contractors, consultants, and suppliers — ensuring scope adherence, quality, and on-site safety.
- Provide supervision and coordination of all engineering functions during construction and turnover to Operations of new generation facilities. This includes:
- Work within multi-disciplinary/multi-departmental teams and seek as well as provide peer review for technical content.
- Supervise external suppliers, contractors and consultants including reviewing work product for adherence to scope and work quality as well as worker safety when on site.
- Lead and grow and manage the project engineering team based on project needs.
Design Review and Coordination
- Ensure project designs comply with EPC/TSA agreements, codes, QA/QC policies, and industry standards.
- Coordinate the review and comment on engineering submittals with support from an Owners Engineer from consultants and contractors.
- Coordinate with contractors to ensure design continuity and compatibility across disciplines.
- Manage Requests for Information (RFIs) and technical clarifications from contractors and vendors.
- Ensure compliance with interconnection requirements to meet substation energization and commercial operation milestones.
- Support financing due diligence efforts and on-going support, including interfacing with the independent engineer.
- Support technical documentation for permitting and regulatory submissions.
Contract Management
- Develop technical scopes of work and requisitions for EPC, EPCM, and vendor contracts.
- Responsible for supporting the engagement and managing Owners Engineer, Independent Engineers and other Consultants engaged for technical reviews.
- Participate in contract execution and resolve technical inquiries, conflicts, and scope challenges.
Qualifications & Experience
- A university degree in engineering with Minimum 5–10 years of engineering experience in power generation, with a focus on renewable energy.
- Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) designation required.
- Demonstrated success managing utility-scale renewable projects through construction and commissioning.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Wind energy systems and high-voltage interconnection (up to 345kV)
- Civil infrastructure: roads, grading, foundations, and site prep
- Electrical equipment foundations (wind turbines, inverters, transformers)
- Testing and commissioning processesEPC project delivery models
- Industry codes and utility best practices
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
