Job summary

City of Winnipeg is seeking a Senior Project Engineer in Winnipeg to lead the execution and turnover of capital projects across water and wastewater, land drainage, and solid waste systems. The role reports to the Wastewater Engineer and requires strong leadership, project management, and technical writing skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil, Mechanical, Computer, Electrical, or Biosystems Engineering.
  • Master's degree in Environmental/Civil Engineering is preferred.
  • Seven (7) years of experience in a field directly related to the duties of the position.
  • Experience in engineering planning, design and construction, project management and contract administration.
  • Must have strong demonstrated problem solving and analytical abilities.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, including leadership, and ability to work in teams, facilitate teambuilding, conduct meetings and strong negotiation skills.
  • Must be proficient at technical writing.
  • Must have demonstrated technical and non-technical verbal communication ability.
  • Must have basic computer skills, including typing, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Must have knowledge of project management processes and procedures, including project accounting and cost management, scheduling, resource management, risk management, dispute avoidance and dispute resolution.
  • Must be familiar with relevant municipal government policies and procedures, including purchasing policies, and legal and contractual requirements.
  • Must be familiar with municipal infrastructure and operations, including water and wastewater treatment process operations, collection and distribution and servicing.
  • Must have knowledge of construction materials, methods and practices, including job site safety.
  • Must be able to deal effectively with the public.

Job Profile

Under the direction of the Branch Head/Wastewater Engineer the Senior Project Engineer is responsible for the execution, completion and implementation of capital projects including project definition, consultant selection, project management, administration, coordination, startup and turnover. Projects include engineering studies, designs, construction and contract administration for upgrading and expansion to water supply, treatment and distribution, wastewater collection and treatment, land drainage and solid waste disposal system.

Conditions Of Employment
  • The successful candidate must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful candidate possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
  • Professional Engineer designation and registered with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (E.G.M.).
  • A Police Information Check satisfactory to the employer will be required from the successful candidate, at their expense.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver's Licence. The successful applicant will be required to provide a Notice of Driver's Licence In Force document upon request.
Position Reports To: Wastewater Engineer
  • Applicants may be required to undergo testing to determine their knowledge, abilities and skills as they relate to the qualifications of this position.
  • The successful applicant may be required to provide a vehicle for transportation while on City business, subject to the terms and conditions of the City Transportation Policy.
  • The successful applicant will be required to complete job specific training required for this position as directed.
