Job summary

Cenovus Energy in Calgary is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to ensure safe, on-budget, on-schedule, and high-quality delivery of major projects across the Canadian Thermal Conventional Heavy Oil asset team. You will lead scoping, design, procurement, and construction with a focus on complex execution while complying with Cenovus standards.

  • Licensed Professional Engineer registered with APEGA.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience on SAGD or Oil & Gas projects.
  • Experience with operating assets or EPCM is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of codes and standards for design, fabrication and construction.

Responsibilities

  • Provide single point coordination of upfront scoping and troubleshooting of projects including necessary field verifications and data gathering.
  • Lead engineering and procurement, through external engineering firms, of repeatable and/or medium to complex projects across multiple concurrent projects and execution phases while meeting objectives, budgets, schedules, and construction expectations in accordance with Cenovus project standards.
  • Provide engineering expertise on projects and perform in-house piping and mechanical system design of low complexity work in accordance with specifications, codes, regulations and recommended practices.
  • Responsible for developing contracting strategies, plans, bids, and evaluations of Engineering and Procurement vendors driven by execution needs.
  • Support construction and commissioning, providing technical guidance to help resolve execution issues.
  • Prepare and communicate project reports; provide input to presentations supporting leadership decision making on project scopes, risks, interfaces, and delivery status.
  • Facilitate the Cenovus Management of Change (MOC) process to safely manage facility changes from early engagement through start-up and turnover to operations.

About this opportunity:

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Project Engineering & Program Management, the Senior Project Engineer is responsible for ensuring the safe, on-budget, on-schedule, and high-quality delivery of projects for the Canadian Thermal Conventional Heavy Oil asset team. The role manages all project phases from initial scoping and detailed design, through construction and commissioning; providing technical leadership and adhering to Cenovus’s established project execution processes.

What you’ll do:

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer registered with APEGA.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience working on SAGD Projects, or Oil & Gas Projects.
  • Previous experience working directly at an operating asset, in a Facilities Engineering role or at an EPCM is an asset.
  • Extensive knowledge and familiarity with applicable codes and standards for design, fabrication and construction of Oil & Gas Projects.
  • Proven track record managing stakeholders both external - Engineering contractors & Vendors – and internal such as regulatory, land, SCM.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities, applying sound judgment and excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
